Sorry I couldn't think of a witty name.

Well this all started a month or so back. I had a friend give me a call and wanted me to goto the show at the local auditorium. You know those events you hear on the radio"
"SALE SALE SALE, JVC 1000 watt sub woofers just 5 dollars FIVE DOLLARS"

etc, etc. Basically a orgy of liquidation goods. I never went to one so I said what the hell. I am not going to even go into the spectacle.

So I am walking around having a good chuckle when I look on one table and there are these three boxes there. The top one had a sticker that said "Thermochill PA 120.3"

"You got to be kidding me", so I ask the guy if I can have a look. Bottom two boxes say the same. I pull the first one out and it is brand new. "How do you know it's brand new, you have never owned a TC rad", you would ask..... if you knew I had not owned one. :D

Well from reading what you cats say the paint comes off if you blow on it hard. This one was perfect. Not a scratch or bent fin. I ask the guy what there for (Playing dumb), he says "No idea". He says 15$ each. I asked him how much of a deal for all three. 30$. Sold.

So I get home and call me mom and tell her sorry, I forgot to not judge a book by it's cover. I'm thinking they prob have leaks or something. But three for 30$ what the hell. I read one time there was a guy who can fix them if it is beyond a simple solder job.

Leak tested them for 30 mins each no probs. Guess I won the WC lottery.

Ordered an Ascension case (I just like MM a lot, I think there pretty sharp cases). Was told it would be the end of May until I would get it. Got an e mail last Monday saying it was shipped. So here we go.

Hardware:
(2) EVGA 512-P3 Nvidia 9800GTX
Enermax | EGX1000EWL 1000W
MCP355 Pump
(2) Coolermaster 120mm fan (Don't flame yet)
(2) SUNBEAM RHK-EX-BA Fan Controller
(11) YATE LOON 120mm Case Fan - D12SH-124B
(2) YATE LOON 120mm Case Fan - D12SH-12
(9) Scythe "ULTRA KAZE" 120mm (Med)
(2) XSPC - Laing DDC Top
(15 more feet) Tygon R-3603 1/2" ID 3/4"
(2) Custom 9800GTX Cooling Kit by iandh
(1) EK-MultiOption 4 Port RES 400
And some dye, MM fan grills, wire, sleeving, bunch of odds and ends.

To go with my current:
AMD 6000+
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
4 Gigs Patriot DDR2-800
Soundblaster XF-I Gamerz
WD150 Raptor
WD 320
WD 500
MCP355 pump with Petra top
EK 400 Res
D-tek Fusion
(2) MCW60's

Parts:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00005-1.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00006-1.jpg

I am going to install the thrid TC rad even though I am not using it yet. Would like to get a third loop for NB / SB / mosfets. However being an AMD fan, easier said then done. I am going to wait for a new board to come out. Then will work on getting the blocks. Or I may have to give into the dark side and go back to Intel. ;)

Loop will be 1 rad on the CPU, second rad on the two GPU. I know, overkill, but 3 TC's for 30 bucks, why not.

Picked up a aircraft style rocker switch from Radio Shack. Going to hook up my UV cold cathode lights. I actually picked up two and was going to hook up the LED's to one. But thinking about all the extra wiring  decided I will save that for a rainy day (Or when I lose my mind).

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image01212.jpg

I like the LED fans. I know it's taboo to most here. However I did not want my living room to glow like a rave party. The RAD's are on a push pull. All the fans on the outside of the case are black and the inner fans are LED's. I think it will look good, my room won't glow (as much), and more importantly functional.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Untitled-1copy-1.jpg

Case frame was easy to assemble. Then I started on the wiring / sleeving. I quickly blew threw 15 feet of sleeving and 40 feet of wiring. Almost out, had to order more.

So I am now looking at my PSU and thinking of the wiring I have to do. So I did this instead.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00001-1.jpg

Any comments, advice is very welcome. Will be tearing this comp down soon so I will update when I am finished most likely.

As always thanks a million for all the advice. Wish me luck!

Best wishes
Chris

UPDATE 5/6/08

Finished sleeving the PSU... I hope I never have to do that again.

Update. 6/4/08

Ok it's been a while, however I ran into a few (hundred) snags.

I got the build done, here was (note was) the finally.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00001-4.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00002-3.jpg

My first thought was:

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk55/wistful1/icons/celebrations%20n%20holidays/christmas08.gif

and

http://cardiscountstereos.com/Images_For_Catalog/anxxxx.jpg

Two things:
1: Didn't like the look. Was brilliant in my head, but oh well. Next time I change up the system I will replace it.
2: It took 16 feet of tubing to run both loops.

I was shocked at how much space I didn't have. All three rads, push and pull took up a ton of room. I spent a while trying to figure out where everything would go. When I found the best (Or only in most cases) places to mount everything, it took more tubing then I would want to run.

Other big problem in the pumps were higher then the res's. (Love the ek 400's, however a complete PITA). Took forever to just fill the system. So I am done and thinking "I hope I do not have to do that again soon!"

Two days later I get these chunks of god only knows what threw out the CPU loop. Closer inspection reveals the hose going from the rad to the res in covered with it. (And I did use PT Nuke)

So I take the whole loop apart, cleaned the loop again (I flushed the rad with disitiled water for an hour before using it the first time).

Few days later, the CPU pump dies.

Soooo I figured lady luck took a vacation and murphy law moved in. I put it away for a while.

Now I ordered two new res's, new hoses (No more UV additives for me), and a bunch of odds and ends. I need it to function better, look better, and above all perform better.

I picked up some of the new Primochill Pro LRT. I hear a lot of second hand "That stuffs good". I'll let you know.

As soon as it's done... again.. will post it up.

Wish me luck :D:rofl::ROTF:

Wow, this is the first build around (unless I missed one) that uses the new MM Ascension case, I'm eagerly progress on your build, being a MM fan myself!
(problem for me is that they're expensive, so I can't afford one)

And btw, you are sooooooooo lucky to get 3 TC's for that price!!! You are one lucky guy! So build build build, I wanna see the outcome... :yepp:

What is wrong with LED fans? Number one rule to modding/building is do what suits you. Opinions are like belly buttons . . .everyone has one.
Your build is gonna be epic here as I think it is the first one with that case. Good luck!

What is wrong with LED fans?

Nothing IMO. This forum can be very critical. However it is why I post here.

When I first jumped into WC'ing I use to go to another site, found this one, and was quick to find the people on here are serious builders. Which is my kind of place.

God help yea if you say something stupid though

J/K, ok I am off to sleeve the PSU (Well start it). For some reason, the sleeves only run half way up each cable

And btw, you are sooooooooo lucky to get 3 TC's for that price!!!

I know, I am still bewildered. Would never have gotten this off the ground if it wasn't for chance.

I gotta go do a good dead and repay the karma.

There have been 2 others, just no build logs. Belive me, I've looked. :)

If you hold off on that 3rd rad, you could get a trinity front. (they're new)

Have all 3 rads in the front.

I may have too. I am running out of room.... no (#*$.

UPDATE 5/13/08

Ok I just got back from my first set of skin graphs. :D

This project has been a test in patience. I do one thing, find two things wrong. Set back after setback. I would list them, however I am trying to forget.

I went threw another 50 feet of sleeving. 80 feet in total. So I am waiting on another 50 feet. So here is where I am at:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00002-2.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00003-1.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00004-2.jpg

So I had to do something aside from striping/ soldering / sleeving wires. Got a scratch somehow on my CPU that went down to the copper (I think it's copper). So I decided to clean it up. Friend called and I told him I was wet sanding my cpu. he asked me to call me doctor and ask if Paxal was right for me.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00005-2.jpg

That's after 1400 grit I think. My OCD was manageable that day. I didn't go for the mirror shine.

Before
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00006-2.jpg

After
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00007-1.jpg

I really like the Iandh heat sinks. Really sharp looking, low profile.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00009-1.jpg

Fan work..... and are all blowing in the right direction. Shocking really, I was on auto pilot at this point.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00010-1.jpg

Res's in, out of sleeving at this point but kept going. Will get those cleaned up when the new stuff shows up. Looks like a radio shack exploded.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/Image00011-1.jpg

Started running some tubes, stopped there. Don't want to get to much stuff in there before finishing up all the sleeving to be done.

I know I will be pleased when it is over (Well, for a week or so before I think of how to upgrade it). Just need it done soon. 2 weeks of this and I think Paxal may be right fo me. ;)

Talk to yea soon
Chris

Doesn't look like there's space left. It also seems like the Ascension cannot fit an E-ATX mobo tray and yet have PA120.3s upfront. Take that back. Probably can with just one row of 25 mm fans. This case was supposed to be bigger. It looks equally crammed.

I like them a lot. I got spoiled on fan filters. Adds a bit of noise, only downside IMO. I looked for a week for a filter for this case. That one was the only option I really had. Glad I picked them up. Works great and very sharp looking.

There isn't. I was kinda surprised. I think it would fit a E-ATX (Barely). Like you said, if you were just running a single 25mm fan. The 38mm fan on top of that is a huge difference in space. I WAS going to mount the pumps towards the rear of the case and keep the front completely clean. No go. So I gotta figure out where the pumps are going. If I didn't have the EK 400's in there I would be fine. But I like them so I will figure it out.

Will be cramped but clean (I hope) :D

There is 5" inbetween an EATX and the front of the case, if you add a pa120.3 and a 25mm fan, it leaves 1 inch. That's 127mm and 27mm for you metric fanboys.

Correct, I am fine with having the third rad be at the back...its for chipset and mosfet. I really wanted 3 triple rads and an option as to where to mount the psu...so ascension it is!

Did you really go through 80 ft of sleeving? I was looking at ordering 50 ft of sleeving (cheaper at 50 ft than at 25 ft from Performance PCs) and I was expecting to have some left over.

They have a stock Horizon back? I was told that its a custom order item only. In other words, only for custom cases. By that time, my grandkids would have graduatued from college and about ready to procreate, the ocean would have risen by 20 feet due to Al Gore, and my obituary would be fifty years old. I intend to play computer games while I am still alive sitting up without oxygen tubes in my nostrils rofl :)

Right now, they only have white cases available. I don't know how you got to order an anodized aluminum case. They hasn't been that option. I've been checking for a while.

Breezyjr

no, not in stock. I just checked their site, and they list 5-10 as the deadline for custom orders for the next run...

Just received a reply from MM....

We have a run going now. Trinity front and horizon back will be a standard we produce.

You can order one now by placing an order for the Duality listed. Be sure to include the finish in comments as well as the front, and back.

The horizon will go for the same amount as the duality.

I really did. I cannot believe how much wiring there was. 22 fans in that case. Case is 24x18x18. Nothing goes from point A to B. Everything is hidden as well as possible. I can see in hind sight were it would add up quick.

I lost track of the wiring I went threw.

I ended up paying a total of 19 dollars in shipping for the three sleeving orders. Moral is, buy way more then you think you need. You will always use the rest someday and it is cheap anyhow.

Order three should be here today

Trinity front would solve a lot of problems with space. Then again, ditching my 400's would as well. :D

Right now, they only have white cases available.

I really dig the white powder coat. Didn't offer it when I pre ordered my case... then again, I could have asked. :D

I picked up the phone and called. They said I could have the case anodized for an additional $40.

Placed the order, called them shortly after, paid an additional $40. I will know for sure tomorrow whether the case I am getting is anodized or not.

Big_Daddy
05-14-2008, 12:09 PM
It's anodized. They haven't created the cyo for the ascension yet. So just order the one that you want, then call them or email them and tell them the add ons. Anodizing, different front/rear/sides/top etc.. EATX mb tray, whatever. (btw, EATX mb tray is $7.50 more)

You were able to get it quickly because they had a brushed ALU ready, all it needed was to be anodized.

I don't have time to start assembly (pictures and starting of the build log) tonight, but the black anodized is the cats pajama's!!! Well worth the extra $40. I liked the look of the Lian Li 343B and thats why I went for the anodized...100x better than powder coat IMO.

Thanks for the update. Nice job. Does look like a christmas tree... LOL

Did you flush the rads with room temp or boiling distilled water?

Also, which fluid did you use?

Can I see som pics of the interior, with more lighting?

I used distiled water, but did not bring it to a rolling boil. Loop had distiled water, feser UV die and a few drops of PT nuke.

Only pics I have of the interior thus far are on page one. I those res's out and am getting my last fedex package today so more to come tonight. I hope Murphy went home.

Stealth42o
06-05-2008, 03:29 PM
You really need to run BOILING DISTILLED H2O through your rads. I went through 10 gallons on my PA120.3's... Took me over 2 hrs... Then rinsed with room temp. distilled H2O...

Did the feser one UV Dye stain your reservoir's?

I think you should have added more dye, it looks awful "pink", maybe it was the blue PT nuke added to it...

Kindly keep us updated with new pics...

Thanks for the tip, I flushed it for well over an hour. Next time I wil use boiling D*water.

That shot you see lasted a few days before it faded. It did not matter how much I added, it did not want to turn red. Now I cannot get the pink out..... will try visine. :D

Ok got my last package showed up so back the the grind. All is going smoothly...... damn, now I am screwed.

Stealth42o

screwed ?? What happened??

Did the reservoirs get stained??

Oh I was joking. I said all is going well so I assumed I jinxed myself.

Yup stained the hell outa the res's, however they just whip clean.

Very nice build,

so that's an acention build, and only 1 system in it , wow.

I am just wrapping up my first duality. But with 2 systems
But i do know what you mean about 100 snags and in my
cast it's changes, i kept changing the build, then got a second case and
had to get my focus or nothing would ever get finished.
But i am getting close, this first one is about 80% and i just switched to a blitz on one side
with the 750i on the other.

Went with a blue green design, Just finished up cables and hoses and watertested.
Now it's time to rig up the uv and lights.....SO ifigure 2 weeks and then i will post hte build log, i took about 1000 photo's....
got to love digital, then I head right in to my second build, which i have about 50% of the parts already.....

But still that is a fantastic job, I love it, even the color, it's unique and the different
colors show off the loops....

But i do know what you mean about 100 snags

It went a lot like this:
Bought a hole saw, had the wrong adapter at home.
Starting wiring, ran out of
wire (More then once)
heat shrink (More the once)
solder
sleeving (Ran out of that 4 times)

ETC. I greatly under estimated how much wiring went into the case. Just tons of little odds and ends and a lot of gas/time running back and forth to radio shack, home depot, etc.

i took about 1000 photo's....
got to love digital

I keep forgetting to snap shots. I just get so focused I do not recall to grab my camera. :(

But still that is a fantastic job, I love it, even the color, it's unique and the different
colors show off the loops....

regards
steve/systemviper

That was the idea in my head. UV color doesn't stay for more then a few days. Thermochill rads eat the dye I think.

Please post pics with bright lights and no side panels so we can take a good unobstructed look "under the hood."

Ok just took these, will get some day shots or setup some constant lighting. Strobe on my camera is just to much. It's built in so I cannot diffuse it.

Anyhow, a few might shots.

I really like your build.. I'm not sure though, I might actually like the multi color version better:shrug: I'd like to see some shots of the case completely assembled.

Those reservoirs look cool in the bays like that. Are they a decent reservoir functionally?

Stiil would like to see daytime pics from all angles. Interested as to how you performed cable management....

Sorry it's been a while. Just have not had the time I needed.

I suppose this is version 3. To re-cap

V1: Ek 400's were a monster PITA to get the system going since they were the lowest in the loop. Yes tilting the case is fine, if you had a small case.

V2: MM res's were impossible to get the air out off. If they were mounted on top of a case it would be fine. Just to much turbulence.

So here we are

V3:
Another pump
3 XSPC res/tops.
NB and SB blocks.
New mobo Evga 750I
Finally went back to intel E8500
And of course lots of odds and ends.

First I re sleeved my PSU the right way. Took her apart.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/1.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/2.jpg

After that I wanted it all over. :yepp:

I had some sleeving left over (Shocking) so I sleeved the Sata cables as well.. Why not, everything else was sleeved. I even did the USB and firewire

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/3.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/4.jpg

New boards and blocks:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/6.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/7.jpg

Funny how such a big case leaves you little options for mounting things, but it all came together surprisingly well.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/Stealth42o/Computer/8.jpg

I completely tore down the project this time and flushed out the rads many times. Getting that UV dye out is a B*#&$!

My first try:

I know I can get that higher, again, just need some time to play around with it. 19k+ would be neat.

Well that's all for now. I am trying not to think about it. I may get anohter idea.

Thanks everyone for your help as always.

Best Wishes
Chris

Hi Stealth, what filter behind those fans are you using?

I like them a lot. I got spoiled on fan filters. Adds a bit of noise, only downside IMO. Also these do not work as well as the foam ones.

Awesome update mate! I was going to postpone my Ascension purchase (exchange rate is worsening) but now you have me thinking about it again!

Drool Drool Drool!!! :)

Is that Primochill LRT tubing? Did you use any dye this time or is it premixed coolant?

Tell me about it. I am going to get my PPC order this week. What rotten luck. On goes 10% extra.

Lovely build. I hope you managed to flog off the bits you rejected.

Great build! I love the tri color tubing/res color scheme. That case is pretty huge but looks like you tried your best to cram everything you could in it. Nice job.

Yes it is PC lrt. I see (Or feel) no difference from the Tygon. Great stuff. Just distilled water and a drop of PT nuke. I learned my lesson with the dye's, pre mixed fluids, etc.

I am working on it

Thank you ask well, and everyone for there kind words.

I unfortunately thought of something new to do. mCubed T-Balancer. I think I may wait a bit before even thinking of touching any wire cutters. :D

Thanks for linking to the fan mesh. I'm going to buy a few and try those on my MM.

And I really need to start reading the threads more careful... ;)

No problem. Was just busting yea balls. ;)

Only thing with those filters is I had two of them rubbing against the fans (Of course I noticed after I reinstalled the rads). Just bend them so slightly outwards from the fans and install. Works great. They still let in the really fine dust, but that is easily removed with a can of air.
