I am attempting to put a new system together & need some advise from the pros. I have narrowed my choice of the basics & wonder your thoughts so far.

Here it is - I am starting with a ASUS P5E3 Premium, 4 x 1 GB Super Talent (W2000UX2GP) DDR3 2000mhz, CPU - Intel QX9770 (still waiting for) & my Cooler Master 1000 watt PS.

I have never used this ram before, but from reading forums I got the impression that Super Talent is good stuff. Hope I was not wrong!!

I would like to try to use my old Thermaltake Armor case & keep it on air.

Any suggestions, comments (good & bad) & ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

Looks good to me. I have 2 Premium P5K (ddr2) and I am very happy with them. Try to get a TRUE (Thermalright Ultra Extreme) for air, and you'll be at grade A for Air. I know jack about that Ram though. What GFX are you going to use? I also have the Armor case. Its a nice case, although it still can get crowded. But an air setup, should be fine. :)

I plan on using my 2 - Sapphire HD3870's in crossfirex. http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=221&grp=3
My old board does not support pcie2.

I'm mixed about lapping the CPU & unsure of the heat sink system on the board itself. Any suggestions there?

Thanks, all advice is appreciated.

P.S. - Riptide - will that CPU cooler clear everything on the MB? If so, I was thinking the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme w/Scythe S-Flex (SFF21F). I really like what i've read about it. Thanks.

One other quetion - Can anyone suggest a better ram while I still have time to return these. If everyone thinks their a bad brand- that is!
I was impressed with the speed (without oc) & low latency/voltage. I still got 9 days to decide to keep them or not!

Thanks, Again

Ya. the cooler should fit without a problem. Again not sure about RAM

Wouldn't the timings be better with a 2 x 2gb RAM kit?

I am not sue. This kinda build is my first. Always thought it was better to run 4 x 1gb instead of 2 x 2gb sticks.

I just want to build my system tops notch so I can get a few good years out of her, With a little playing on my part :D.

Thanks for all help

hi and welcome,
lemme help u out here.

(1or even 2 in raid 0) 150 gig raptor hard drives(western digital 10k rpm)

4 x 1 GB Super Talent (W2000UX2GP) DDR3 2000mhz--??--get a 2x2 gig kit,less overhead stress on your northbridge only using 2 slots vs 4,no brainer.

CPU - Intel QX9770----??-----get a q9550,clock just as hi and half the price.with the extra money saved put a water cooling system together for it and clock higher then a q9770 on air easily.plus u then will have a nice single cpu waterloop u can keep for many years.only use 1\2 tubing, big pump, triple 120mm rad..

Cooler Master 1000 watt PS.----??-----enermax or pc power cooling 1000watt powersupplys ONLY,i would never get a coolermaster p\s.they make cases, not powersupplys its probaly a rebranded 1000w thermaltake etc...

DONT BUY ANY VIDEO CARDS YET----9900gtx is coming out in july, sit tight.

do whatever u want but im giving u SOLID advice.

Hi again,

Thanks for the advice railmeat.

Drives - Check, got 2 - 150 raptor drives.
MB - Check - Got P5E3 Premium
Ram - Got - 4 x 1gb Super Talent (W2000UX2GP) DDR3 2000mhz, can't find 2gb sticks.
PS - Check - holds voltage quite well on old Q6600 OC@3.3 on air (stable). Figure should be fine on something requiring less voltage. (Will compare)
Case - Check - Thermaltake Armor - good air flow on old system.
CPU - Check - QX9770 on way - personal choice.
GPU - Check - 2 - Sapphire HD3870 ( http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/produ...gpid=221&grp=3 ) dual slot (OC - 875 mhz core & 1356 mhz memory each card- Stable) - Again personal choice.
Water - Don't like the idea, but is an option.
CPU cooler - Ordered - Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme w/Scythe S-Flez fan (SFF21F)
Thanks.

Again - All advise appreciated.

Me again,

Does anyone have any thoughts on this cooler - Ultra / ChillTec / Socket 939/775/AM2 / Thermal Electric CPU Cooler.
I like the specs & thermal electric works better for me than the thought of water.

Thanks!

Linkage? If thats cooled by air via TEC, its gonna be crap.

Hello all,

I got a little problem. My Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme w/Scythe S-Flez fan (SFF21F) wiil not fit in my case with the side panel fan. I really don't want to lose my side case fan as it helps keep my GPUs cool. Any other suggestions for CPU cooler?

Thanks.

Any thoughts about the Scythe Ninja Copper cooler? A little on the heavy side, but will fit in my case without removing the side panel fan.

Thanks in advance.
