View Full Version : Wide band worm screws and D-Tek barbs?

I noticed in Martin's review of the D-Tek High Flow barbs that the standard sized worm screws fit the barbs perfectly. Falling right into the little "slot."

I recently ordered a setup from Petra's that included all D-Tek barbs and the worm drive (wide band) clamps seen here: http://www.petrastechshop.com/ststwohoclwb.html

Now, they're a tiny bit bigger than the space on the barb, which you can see here: http://www.petrastechshop.com/dhifig1th1od.html

Now, I had PM'd Martin asking his opinion on this, and he said that he believed the clamps would still work fine, but that they would go over a bit.

I respect his opinion, but I am extremely paranoid and anxious about this whole watercooling thing (virgin watercooler alert!), and I wondered if anyone else had any thoughts. Perhaps one of you gentlemen (or gentleladies) has these items or has used them together in the past.

Anyways, any information is appreciated, thanks.

It's okay, you tighten them well and you'll be fine. Mine were like that too, no worries.

No hose clamps will fit on the fuzion at all, if you are using tubing with 1/8" wall thickness that is. You don't really need any, though. If you are worried about leaks, just use some of the dangerden fatboy metal barbs, they are oversized and hold tubing, even 1/2" ID, snugly.

I actually ordered a Apogee GT, not the Fuzion. I found that in most reviews the bowed Apogee GT = Stock Fuzion.

Granted, I'm sure a quad nozzled Fuzion with the pro mount will outperform a bowed Apogee GT, but then you're looking at an addition ~$30 or so.

With 1/8" wall thickness tubing? Because on mine, not even zip ties will fit.

I don't like worm drive clamps that have liner. The liner makes it harder to use.

I run 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD Tygon with the FuZion on my testbed without issue--the trick is to install one clamp and tighten it before trying to slip the other clamp on. This helps to create a little extra space to work with (granted, I don't use the 'wide band' clamps...I like the regular ones (http://www.petrastechshop.com/ststwohocl.html)).

Ok, yeah that is possible then. I don't like the unlined clamps though, because even with the lined ones, I have seen them create abrasions in the tubing. Would that not be even more of an issue with the unlined ones?

Takes practice, but I can get worm drives on my Fuzion with 1/8" wall tubing pretty quickly now. Petra's method works well.

The unlined clamps are going to leave impressions on the tubing but it doesn't really matter. You'd have to REALLY clamp down a worm drive to slice through the 1/8" wall tubing.

I also have the Fuzion with worm drive clamps on my barbs.
