I have the above Corsair ram stable at the following:
400 FSB (read 800 mem), 1.888v, 4,4,4,12 timings

I then increased the FSB to 423 (read 846 mem). It wasn't stable at the above settings so I made a big jump to 2.08v and 5,5,5,18 timings and now it is stable again.

As each stability test takes ages, I was wondering what timing makes the most difference in performance that I can start with, i.e.:

tCL
tRCD
tRP
tRAS

I've heard a quick rough rule that tRAS = tRCD + tRP + 2 (equates to 12 for me). Do I change each '5' timing to 4 separately and test?

Your memory is rated at 2.1v (not 1.8v) so this is normal. If you OC is not stable, you may need to increase the voltage to your memory controller since you have 4 modules.
