The first picture is okay, but it could use a larger aperture to make the wasp stand out better. The noise in the areas out of focus is a little bit distracting.
The second picture is too dirty in my opinion and could arguably breathe the same atmosphere while being technically better. I don't think the noise and halos really add to the composition, but that's a matter of personal taste ;)
What camera (settings) did you use for these shot and did you do any post processing on them?

Yes, good point with aperture in first pic. Pic was taken with Nikon D70S + Sigma 17-70mm lense. Had no macro lense at that time :(
aperture: 4.3 focal length: 70mm
second pic was taken with casio exilim ex-S600 from a friend
changed colors to grey and trimmed it in ps
Got a new camera lately and hope to show some more photos in future :)

bought a samsung gx-10 (same as pentax k10d)
nice camera, with good body :)
first i wanted k20d or gx-20 but decided for the "older" model so i can spend the saved money on better lense
