Hi all,

My +5v rail is reading 4.8 (idle).

What are the effects of this on my system and OC'ing ability. How can I raise it and what other tidbits should I know about?

Here's my rails incase it's a psu issue.

12 = 12.608
5 = 4.892
3.3 = 3.34
vcore = 1.56

450watt psu

low 5v rail=bad for ocing to high fsbs with nf2 boards.

4.89 isn't that bad, and your other rails look fine. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to dip down below 4.7 or so. The other thing to watch out for is fluctuating voltages, eratically raising and dipping. other than that, if you start to experience random reboots, then it might be a problem.

What exactly is a "bad" fluctuating voltage??

Mine do fluctuate but to me, not bad. While Idle the +5 rail will go from 4.81 to 4.88 It usually is staying around 4.88 and dips a bit up and down and will go down as far as 4.81 (at idle). I have PC probe maybe I could post a pic of the chart with load and idles???

Also I had to RMA my first board and when researching, trying to figure out what was going wrong, there were many people reporting a lot fluctuation in the voltage on the board???

any thoughts???

there are some people that say you need a stable 5v rail that never falls below 5v to reach 240fsb+ on nf2 boards...

not sure what to think about that... i can only reach 325fsb and my 5v rail is @ 4.95, ill mod that rail and let you know if it really matters.

yes id does make a diference! i raised my rails to 14v 5.6v and 3.7v and can run prime @235dc now, before the mod i got an error after a few seconds no matter how much vdd and vdimm i used!

Don't trust the reading that you get from either BIOS rail readings or software programs like motherboard monitor...

They are usually not accurate... For a true measure of what your rails are try measuring the actual molex connectors from your psu....

for example on my system while CPU is stressed during Folding@home my 5v reads 4.84-4.86 through my windows readings.... But if I take my digital multimeter and check the molex connectors it reads 5.02v

Great advice everyone!!!

At least I know its not a terrible volt reading unless its really inaccurate;)

I'll use my new, I don't know how to yet use, Dig VM and see what it says. That's a great way to get to know my stuff better:D :D

Mov'n on up!

The molex connectors are good points, but remember that they don't reflect the voltages being delivered to your CPU, the NB, the SB and the memory. You'll need to find the voltage points on the motherboard itself to find out if those 3.3, 5 and 12 volts measurements at the molex and the ATX connector are actually what's getting to the vital components on the board.

Onboard voltage regulation and supply can cause fluctuations even with absolutely steady PSU voltages as measured at a molex or ATX connector.

and again this a7n8x prooves to be a great board, it gives me ecatly the same voltage readings in bios as it dows with my multimeter!

Hmm,

So going with what Sjohnson just said, does anyone (maybe Sayaa:D ) know a good link to show me these points for the readings to the chips for the a7n8x deluxe 2.0... are these the same points you, sayaa, are using???
