I have the same psu as you mentioned "SPL" and "LazyTech".

I was running some low rails until I did a vmod to it. Now it runs these readings...I used a meter to check them and not the bios as it can be off by quite a bit:

3.3v = 3.65
5v = 5.6
12v = 12.75v

You will have to look at the ATX connector and then the wires that are Orange (3.3), Red (5V), and Yellow (12v). There will be a thick wire and a thin wire. The thin wire is the "sense" wire for the psu, this is one you add a resistor to.

Just grab a 10k-20k VR from your local radio shack. Snip the sense wire and solder the VR to it. The VR should have 3 legs. Use an outer leg and the middle leg, but do NOT use the 2 outter legs. Solder the screw side of the VR pointing at the psu, then solder the middle leg of the VR to the wire thats running to the ATX connector.

I recommend this: http://www.qrf.com/images/pot3006p.gif

But not this: http://www.qrf.com/images/potrv6.gif

The big pots can get in the way with this type of mod. I used a series for my mod, but a single VR will work nicely. I would cut the end leg (end with no screw) off so that it doesnt get used by accident.

This is a simple vmod to do.

Will this work on any PSU that has the thin sensing wire? Thanks, nice mod! :D

Dale it SHOULD work with any PSU that actually uses the sense lines to regulate the rails. On some cheap PSU IMO the sense lines are not used. Also on some PSU's the 3.3v rail is actually taken from the 5v rail, so adjusting the 5v rail with this mod would probably adjust the 3.3v as well.

The TP550 uses seperate regulation for the 3.3v, 5v, and the 12v rails so it should work well with this psu. I'm going to do this mod to my TP550 in the next couple of days and I'll post the results.

Thanks Major,
I have to check my power supplies to see which ones have them...aside from my TC550 on which all are adjustable...it may allow adjustment on the TTGI rails that lack pots and I think I have an Antec TP 430 with no pots at all that has lagging rails.:D

How come in the other thread they use a fixed resister too?

I did it and made no difference and I'm using a 10k vr should I try a 20k vr??? Whats the resistance that you guys have when the vmodd is done?

Any PSU that actually uses the 3.3 sense wire should work with this mod. I've used 10k pots. I've modded Enhance, Enermax and some no-name POS PSU to work with this.

You start with 0 (zero) ohms and slowly increase the resistance 'til you get your desired volts. Multi-turn cermet (ceramic-metallic) potentiometers are best - they allow for both fine-tuning and since they increase the voltage slowly they guard against blowing boards and/or PSU's.

I'm using a antec 550 true control right now and tried a 10k vr and it did nothing and same with my PC power and cooling 400w. I know I have the right wire its the small one thats next to the 3.3v at the atx plug but some how I get no change at all.

PCP&C supplies may be using different circuitry on the 3.3 sense than lesser supplies. Have you checked with the PCP&C staff as to how to tweak your unit? BTW, wish I had one, nice!

sjohnson,

I finally broke down and ordered a 510 PCPCooling PSU.....tracking says it will be here tomorrow.:D I wish I had bought nothing but these from the start as anything less is really a waste of money in the long run.;) Ahhh....hindsight...sigh

The Sherman tank of all PSU's. Great choice :)

Actually the PC power and cooling 400w model has very low lines and tryed to talk to PCPAC about that and they said there's no adjustment for that model so that kinda sucks.

TheDude

The 510 is a lot different than the 425. I talked to a tech there named Larry for 45 minutes. He was very helpful and convinced me to go with the 510.;)

Ohh ya I'm not saying the 510 sucks at all Dude, I just said the 400w model isn't so great. I wish I could afford the 510 and I would take one in a hurry the 510 deluxe is my dream PSU.

What did it take corrupt?

Same as everyone else, I was trying another way just using a 10k vr in line with the vsence line and it no worky. So I tryed a 10ohm resister and a 1k vr and it works perfect. Goes up to 3.60v for the 3.3 line but I think thats alittle silly, lol.

I got the regular 510....pots are internal...I don't expect to need to adjust them, but I'm comfortable doing so if need be. BTW You can drill 3 holes in the PSU case of the regular 510 and adjust pots with a screw driver.:D

Thats definatly good to know. Hey by any chance have any of you guys did the memory v modd for the 9800pro I know how to do it but just wondering what was to much voltage is like 3.00 volts ok????

corrupt....you did this mod to an Antec True Control....was this on top of the vr's that the psu came with initially??

Thanks

Bito, it had to have been on top of those. Keep in mind that the adjustment that comes with it only allows for a 5% adjustment. That is normally plenty, but some of these guys have a load that requires more. The TTGI is a good candidate for this mod and I have several of them. They also come with an internal pot.

Never said thanks btw Dude....

You still using the PCPC? How do the rails respond under load and high Vdimm?

You're most welcome Hëll ‡ Fîrë...but I don't remember for what?LOL

I'm only now ready to use the 510 for a high OC in a Mach2 Review...hoping to push one of those sweet 1700s to 3GhZ. In normal use it has been a rock. :D

Worked great.

I just modded the 12, 5, 3.3 on my truepower 550 with a 10-Ohm fixed resistor and a 1k variable on all rails and it works perfect.

Also got around to doing the vdimm mod on my nf7-s 1.2, I will finaly be able to see what this year old Kingston HyperX 3500 will be able to do. I have been stuck at around 215-220 on any board I have put them in; they have the chips marked kingston, and are rated @2.5v w/2-3-3-8 timmings I belive. Does anybody know if these are rebadged BH5? They were both purchased around christmass last year.

Heya guys,
I'm about to do the vmods for my TP 550w PSU.
Here's what I components I have already.

1st option:
3.3v Line: 10 Ohm resistor & 500 Ohm VR.
5.0v Line: 36 Ohm resistor & 1K Ohm VR.
12v Line: 68 Ohm resistor & 1K Ohm VR.

second option:
10 Ohm resistor & 10K Ohm VR - 3.3v
36 Ohm resistor & 10K Ohm VR - 5.0v
68 Ohm resistor & 10K Ohm VR - 12v

Are the components I have right?
I have a few 500 Ohm VR's & a few 10K Ohm VR's
I know what to do but the only thing I'm unsure of is what Ohm's to set the VR's to.

Do I set my VR's to the max resistance (say 10K Ohm for the 12v line) & then adjust it on the fly? Or do I set my 10K Ohm to 0 Ohms & then adjust it?

I thought I saw on another thread that the guy (can't remember who) used a 10 Ohm resistor & a 1K Ohm VR set to 220 Ohms. Is this O.K?
My Antec TP 550w 3.3v line reads 3.2v. I'm looking to get it up to 3.4v. Can one of you XS guys help me here? With my 9800pro vGPU mod I set the 10k Ohm VR to max resistance & then adjusted it after the mod was done. Does this mod use the same method?

Thanks,

edit:
I got it from the other "Antec PSU Mod" thread. Got one more question though, do i set my VR/Trimmers to max resistance & go from there?

Finally got the mods done on my Antec TP 550.

3.3v@3.3v

5v@5.10v (I can't seem to get it higher no matter how many
turns on the VR)

12v@12.14v (Same prob as the 5v mod).

Before the mods my 3.3 was 3.2v, 5v was 4.8, 12v was 11.7v.

Now to install it into my Vapochill/WaterChill. I really needed stable lines, especially my 12v line as the Vapo & Waterchill suck a lot of juice.

You can push those rails higher without fear bro. That 12v can run close to 13v without worry....some run it at insane volts, but not sure why the purpose there. Ego I am guessing..lol.

Nicely done.

Hëll ‡ Fîrë,

My 12v rails cut off on me if I raise them any higher than 12.3V, same as my 5v rail, any more than 5.3V & that's it, I can't get my PSU started. I have to re-adjust them to under those specs & everything's fine.

WTF is going on with my one?

Fixed the probs I had with the VR's. I was adjusting them like how I adjust my IC7-G Vmem mod & after 2hrs, I finally relaised I was adjusting the VR's the wrong way.

Very good mod this.

Thanks for all the help. I'm losing it, nearly every component in my rig is modded for extra POWER!! I'm LOVIN' IT.

Missus thinks I'm insane:D :D
