i have been reading about phase change for a while now and wish to build my own i think i have the right parts and was hoping you guys can take a look and comment on my build. i plan to cool my q6600 24/7 at no more than 1.50 in windows. i will be able to get copper tubing from my Dads work. i do not know what fan to get, noise is not really a problem any fan under 60DB should be fine.

I think that will be a good price/performance unit.

How are your brazing skillz?

What refrigerant do you plan on using?

Need a temp display or controller and something to supply 12 volts.
What are you going to do for a case? Or will it be open?

I don't recomend the one from under the ice (temp display). it reads 4-5 c off of my uei dt200, is 12vdc (needs inverter), and doesn't seem to update temps very often at all. Plus its not on the cheap side :P

I would recomend .031" tube with a quad, but im very unfamiliar with r134a.

also, i would recomend looking on ebay for compressors. You can get a much stronger compressor for much cheaper then that.

edit: i would definately use 115vac to avoid an inverter

sorry i am so tired i posted an answer in the wrong thread :(

I'm saying you already have the 12v for the fans so it is no problem to have a 12v temp display.

I don't mean to sound too much of a hard ass, you have learnt a lot for your age, but you are in no position to be recommending things you think you know about. Regardless whether your right or not.

PM chilly1 about a temp display. he is extremely slow to get back to you, but he sells them for relatively cheap

I have the upmost respect for Reggie, but I don't think you'll have much luck there for a number of reasons.
Any cheap temp display is not going to be accurate at -50°C. If you want accurate temp display, buy a decent controller that is rated at the operating conditions. It'll cost ya maybe a couple of hundred bucks, but will do exactly what it is suppose to. I.E Carel.
Or you could just get a cheap one and live with the fact that it's 4-5°C out. Like most of us do. No big deal.

changing AC power DC requires a simple Rectifier,A inverter changes DC to AC.

much easier to rectifiy ac to dc than the reverse.

I agree, and to add to that comparing a controller to a dt200is just a shot in the dark also. Around the forums here many guys purchased them (dt200) and they seem to go out of calibration very easily. Also just because a thermometer is 0c in a ice bath doesn't mean it;s in calibration Thur the it's full rage. It can be right on at 0c but 6 degrees off at -40c. Personally I'm not impressed by uei products even that I never owned anything made by them. They don't compare to some of the premium manufactures.

In most cases you get what you pay for, but in the current market you still need to research who and where the tool was made. many company's like yellow Jacket,Bacharach, robinair and dozens of others still sell their premium line of tools and meters but also sell cheap third world stuff branded with their name. Beware of third world copies of quality tools.

keep in mind you will have to buy a inverter for 10/15$ if you use that temp display.

Doe what its supposed to though, tell you if your getting cold :D
I have no idea with controllers....

good luck

You don't need both. The controller will display the temp.

You aren't supposed to post when its done, you post as you build it. :)

That way it is easier to help if you need it and it keeps the forum alive.
