How do you mount a reversing ring when the focus is on the tip of the lens?

I'm not sure what you mean, the reversing ring would go where the filters mount to...your focusing ring is in front of that>?

Personally I never used a ring, electrical tape works well ;)

Not really sure. I went and looked at one today and the focus ring was way out front.
On a side note they had a macro lens for over $500.

Macro glass is not cheap hence the popularity of the reverse-mount hackery

Just get one of these (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-3311944-7803158?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=raynox+dcr-250&x=0&y=0) and you'll be much happier.

Now after looking into it I'm more confused then I was before.
THere is a reversing ring that lets you mount your lens backwards on your body.
There is a adaptor that lets you mount another lens in front of the lens that you have on the body.
Then there is macro lens's like a filter that you can stack up. 10x+4x+2x
I saw a pic on some site that looks pretty odd. It has a circle image and black all around it. Looks like you are looking backwards through a pair of binoculars. Which is the best to do.
I've heard that putting another lens in front of another gives you 1:1
I have no idea what 1:1 is.
Can anyone clear this up for me?

Ok I tried looking through my lens backwards. It looks good but the camera won't shoot without a lens.

lol. you have to have two lenses to do this.

I use the Raynox 2.5x lens that I linked to above - for the price you can't get any better. It makes any lens with a front thread of 52-67mm excellent at macro work.

Can you post up some pics with it.
I bought a macro coupler from ebay to be able to put another lens in front of mine.
Its weird how the zoom works backwards. Right now I just have the 18-55 kit lens. I've read thet for the second lens you want a small mm with no zoom. Also for the front lens you would want mechanical so you can keep the apature open.

That sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

Now this only gets you close up macros...this won't work with anything at a distance like a dedicated macro lens would. I'll get some pics up in a few minutes.

You can use a single reversed lens, but it is far less effective though I don't have the math to back that up. But yes, 2 equal length lenses facing each other will give you 1:1. 1:1 loosely being at actual size.

Just by flipping the 18-55 I was able to focus in on "In God we trust" on a dime with it at 18. At 55 it focused on the whole dime.

How much light do you lose using 2 lenses? I'm guessing a lot.

Here is how it mounts:

Here are some pictures with it. (http://images.google.com/images?client=opera&rls=en&q=raynox+dcr-250&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi)
