View Full Version : SuperPi 1.5XS 1M challange - Easter Deadline

Charles Wirth

Want a chance at a free Foxconn Motherboard?

Maximum clock speed 4.509Ghz, I am allowing a small margin of error on Mhz.
Target Pi time of 10 seconds.

If you can break 10 seconds then post it up with specs, otherwise post your slow score and complain.

The pi run screen shot must accompany a current CPUID 1.44x in the same image.

Lowest score wins.

Contest ends Easter Sunday 9PM Pacific Standard Time.

Braking 10 secs is easy if you know the trick ;) Like here (http://images.people.overclockers.ru/148772.png) for example :)

That's a lucky contest because I already have the shot... :)

Intel E8500 Q743A797 (500x9)

Not that it matters, but kinda curious about which model of Foxconn?

10.266 without "the trick" :) Didn't bother to take SS for obvious reasons.

Okey, here's my first entry. Spent few hours trying to find best timings/subs with old bios, because old bios is totally different by handling timings. This is close to maxed out, but without copywaza yet.

Not going to happen on an opteron 165 @ 2.8GHz that's for sure

Don't worry about me, I'm too busy with school for this...besides, I don't need to be getting greedy with those wonderful boards. :p:

Put off for tomorrow what you can do today, right? Time to fire up the 1st stage of the cascade and roll the dice on my attempt

For what you need Dry Ice for just 4.5GHz?

03-22-2008, 01:47 PM
Hmmm... P5K3 Deluxe... QX9650 @ 450MHz x 10... BIOS trick... and CellShock's DDR3-1800 6-5-5-16 1T :D hmmm :D

[XC] gomeler
03-22-2008, 02:22 PM
For what you need Dry Ice for just 4.5GHz?

Can be done on air with ~1.45vcore with a 45nm chip. Needs ~1.6v with a 65nm chip and atleast a single-stage.

kiwi
03-22-2008, 02:30 PM
you will never get sub 10s with 65nm @ 4.5ghz :p:

[XC] gomeler
03-22-2008, 02:32 PM
you will never get sub 10s with 65nm @ 4.5ghz :p:

Was just answering the cooling/frequency question. sub-10s with 65nm at 4.5GHz is impossible though unless someone has a frankenstein chip with 6mb of L2 cache

Kasparz
03-22-2008, 02:44 PM
Extreme cooling isn't necessary for this challenge unless you want to go nuts for 2Ghz+ 6-5-5 that requires subzero cooling on memory and most likely northbridge too. My office E8200 can do 4.65Ghz superpi1m with average air on X38.

Time to see if I can get my new X3350 installed in time for this.

So whats the BIOS trick then?? :D

[XC] gomeler
03-22-2008, 10:21 PM
*complains* 10.296s with just ram tweaks via BIOS. Was running 819MHz 3-2-2-1, trfc 16, PL 7, and all the other sub-timings as low as possible. Will try 10x450 tomorrow, maybe I can pull 900 3-2-2-6 out of my poor sticks.

dduckquack
03-23-2008, 02:09 AM
you will never get sub 10s with 65nm @ 4.5ghz :p:

time for me to stop dreaming then  was thinking 480x9 @ 4:5 divider. although im used to running 32M and have no idea what bearing the memory frequency has in 1M runs. care to enlighten me?

im complaining i guess... :yepp:

With old BIOS my P5K3 Dlx neither P5E3 Dlx does not like FSB over ~550 :/ And Intel X38 board is crap too.
But i have backup, picked E8400.

Koda, that score of you is very good.

I have spent some hours now benching pi.. but i don't come under 10.015s

..wondering if it is the DDR3 that gives a performance boost..

Where's that bloody Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 when you need it :@
Well...it's dead isn't it :p:

9.968 @ 450.8x10 QX9650 and CellShocks at DDR3-1800 6-5-5-16 1T, no OS tweaks, copy waza ( worthless in 1M ), maxmem, etc.

Asus Commando.

Pre 45nm BIOS gives serious performance boost thats equal for about 100MHz.
Here is nice thread about this pre 45nm BIOS performance gain in 1M.

[XC] gomeler
03-24-2008, 09:35 AM
Wow, did not know about this. So it looks like 1M gets a huge jump while 32M suffers a little bit. Thanks for revealing that, wouldn't have known otherwise. Don't think I have any boards here that'll have pre-45nm bios though.

congrats dude

charles next time give ppl more time :p: cause tweakin SuperPi is a really good comp and would have given some heated competition

only thing these young guys don't understand is that you have to dangle the carrot in front of the competition a little....never post your best score right away....kills the buildup :p:

As long as you've got your hardware with ya :p:

That 9.968s run of mine was done with the QX9650 and a C2D E6600 stock heatsink and 1.55V+ core

Nice score Kasparz, and congrats ( oh and enjoy the foxconn lady...erm motherboard :D )

Good contest. man I could have competed if my water cooling would hurry up and get here.... Then I wouldnt have to worry about killing my poor little e8400. haha, at 4.6ghz it was up at really high temps. and at 4.4 I got 10.5... I think with some ram tweaking I could have beaten it. well it is nice and cold outside, so it is time to fire her up, and get sub 10s even if I dont get a mobo for it..

what exact mobo was it anyway?

Anyway, congrats to the winner and congrats to the organizers for making nice contests that give something back to the enthusiasts

+1 on the idea of publicizing the contests a bit better? I didnt see this until it was too late... my 8500 mightve done some damage :)
