View Full Version : I am a little angry about your wprime policy...

Hi,

I just got a report that one of no_name's submissions of wprime32m has been blocked due to an old version.

Well I still would be ok with it if k|ngp|n wouldn't have a similar score that obviously isn't 100% correctly done (considering the way of approval, I don't doubt the time itself in any way)

I mean this one:
http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=695461

When it was done there was already the rule to use the new wprime version.
I reported that results because the checksum is invalid and there is no screenshot where we could see the version.

If anybody else would enter a score that way it would have been blocked before clicking "ok" but nobody touches k|ngp|n?

I was fine when my report got ignored but now you remove no_name's scores and I am a bit confused what policy you follow?
The same rulez for all pls...
Waiting for your statement on this.

SoF

I had a similar problem, some policies suck big time at HWBot...

no I am not just one of our team moderators ;)
I am smiling a bit as some time ago some people thought I am X.I.P. and I am not - don't make me more important as I am buddies :ROTF: :D

well another issue with wprime...the old version is way faster (!) than the new one.
all the guys who benched their Pentium I or so with the old version will lead the rankings forever as it is impossible to break their times with the new version.
that's so .... , people should be allowed to use same versions in "historical class" to keep the competition alive.

what version are you comparing to

1.55v is definitely faster by miles than any older version ;)

iirc 1.43 (I am not at home right now) was fastes version for me (with some tweaks I used).
New version I tested some time before (1.53?) - my tweaks did not seem to work that good anymore. I tested it with my E6850 and I had big differences (more than half a minute).

Additionally a team mate told me this morning he just tested it with P1 against some results and is not getting close to the old results at all even having a real comparable system.

Personally I think I haven't tested 1.55 in detail after I was so disattracted by 1.53 but if you say I should give it a try, I'll definitly do so (after I finished my movement to another city and everything else).

Version 1.55 is mandatory since 01/01/2008: http://www.hwbot.org/hwbot.post.do?postId=779.

Kingpin's score appears to be invalid, however that's an issue that we know about. In the past, some online submissions appeared as invalid while they weren't. This issue has been fixed, but some scores are locked in being invalid. I'll ask Fred if we can recheck the checksums in order to be sure that those who are legit can be checked 'Valid'.

Some policies may not be entirely clear, we know. That's why we have a full set of rules almost ready to be published :).

maybe for new systems but considering old systems - it makes the "retro-competition" totally worthless :( :( :(

AMD k6-2 450@500 MHZ
Wprime V 1.43 (http://www.awardfabrik.de/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1121&stc=1&d=1206448853) ~520s
http://s6.directupload.net/images/080325/temp/2jxnkigr.jpg (http://s6.directupload.net/file/d/1378/2jxnkigr_jpg.htm)

Wprime V 1.55 (http://www.awardfabrik.de/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1122&stc=1&d=1206452924) 763s (!!!)
http://s1.directupload.net/images/080325/temp/gm3vzway.jpg (http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/1378/gm3vzway_jpg.htm)

Just to prevent confusions: New version - nothing wrong with it, I will use it as rules are rules - sure, no problem.
BUT: many of the retro hardware's wprime scores are done with an old version of wprime and with the new version you will not be able to beat the existing scores at all.
With new hardware that might be no issue as dinos is telling us (and I believe him) but what options we would have with old hardware? splitting results in "old" and "since 1.55" ? Or the old results will get medals but no points anymore?
Personally I think that a solution for this is very hard but I like the retro competition very much and I would be very upset if you can't fight with the same weapons anymore :(

@massman thanks a lot for your reply, didn't knew about the issue with the checksums. Anyway I would always prefer a screenshot for the HoF as well just to see what speed, timings etc. have been used.
btw: micha has re-done his wprime with the new version so this is totally fine now for me ;) the "retro-wprime-issue" is now on the table :D (I know I can be a pain :p: ;) )

Having a bunch of old systems myself, I wouldn't want the retro-competition to be this unfair!

Difficult issue to solve, I'll discuss this with my fellow HWBot crew members, definitly worth to look into.

By the way, I've forced the HWBot server to recalculate the checksums and KP's is now completely valid :-).

I remarked the checksum now valid from vince

Maybe another version of wprime can fix the "retro-problem", I have no idea either what to do quickly about that but I have time on that ;)

Actually that's not that case - granted compared to newer versions of wprime 1.55 is better - but to older versions it is much slower - ideally 1.43/1.45 were top trumps.
