I voted no. Seems like a waste...

QX is like the AMD FX - overpriced.

Glad the AMD BE chips aren't following in the old FX footsteps.

If you feel you need to, then get them.
No matter what we say, it is still ultimately up to you.

Ask yourself, "Self, what do I stand to gain from owning these CPU's?"

I'd keep the 5420s, personally. Too much expenditure for too little return. How well do the Xeons clock?

Do you buy a Lamborghini body and live with a Hyundai engine in the engine bay ?

So far I can get 2.92 without the BSEL mod.

Chips are still sitting in the cart due to my massive wiffle waffle

If you can handle the $3300.00 then do it.
You live one time and life isn't about making apologies to yourself for the things you should have done but didn't.
I'm not saying take food out of the kids mouths but make adjustments other places. One less case of beer a month, a few less trips out for the $20.00 lunches and maybe pack a couple sandwitches, you know what I mean.
That board, with 4-3870X2's, 2-QX9775's on water at anything over 4000mhz will do for your mental health more than Cindy Crawford in her prime could have!
Go for it!

(Then put it on WCG when your not gaming on the brute!)

I reached into my pocket, grabbed a quarter and tossed for you..
It's heads..buy it!
(Like I'd have a 1841 Seated Liberty quarter in my pocket! That coin would buy the board, cpu's memory and pay your mortgage for the year)

Listen. If it makes you happy, don't equivocate and just buy it. If youcan live without it and are indifferent, then forget it. You have a gazillion computers at home and don't need another machine. Having said that, its your happiness that matters, and if you can afford it, don't think twice. I gothrough the same crap all the time. Same b1tch a$$ decisions, except that they are cars.

Ian: I don't read minds but after talking with Warren a few times I can tell you I'll bet my clovers that he won't be happy till he sees at least 4000mhz across 8 cores. That's not what I think, thats what I know!:D

After reading you only get 2.92GHz out of the Xeons, I say go for the 9775s. ;) You seem fairly well-to-do (without making any value judgments as to whether or not you have money to throw around), so why not, on second thought? Dual 9775s and 8800Ultra SLI (til GT-200 or whatever it is) would suit nicely.

If you have the $$ to blow, I'd say go for it. I know if I had $5,000 sitting around, I'd have a Skulltrail sitting in my garage with some QX9775's and all the components for a new double-headed cascade sitting like legos scattered across the garage floor. Just depends on how much disposable income you have. Sure, it isn't a "smart" decision, but it's damn fun. I honestly rarely have had more fun than when I'm blowing money on stupid decisions. It's the stupid decisions you recall with a smile on your face :)

:( That's really gotta suck. Oh well they'll come back. I voted "No" because I think it's just way too much money to be throwing around. But if you can afford it, you might as well get them.
