Ok like the title says I have a Q6600 I am trying to over clock below is a screen of what I'm at now (way suckage)

I dont want to increase the voltage on anything. But this thing isnt even running at the stock 2.4 GHZ the multiplier is set at 9 (the highest it will go) and i increased the bus speed from 200 to 230 (I tried to go straight to 300 and it crashed) I mean WTF???? (I'm running XP pro x64 if that matters)

Stock bus speed is 266. Also, your stock voltage should be higher than what CPU-z is reporting. If you use coretemp, can you post a screen shot of that?

Also, it you upgraded, you motherboard is probably using default settings (if you had set them manually at one point).

I wondered about that voltage but in the bios its set to 1.257 or something like that but its on auto control? Also my PCI is set to 100mhz is that high enough ?

edit:: I cant even get it to 266.....

set 1.30-1.35V vcore i would have thought...
keep an eye on your temps.

Ok set the voltage to 1.35V and 300 BS instant crash got it running stable at 1.3V and 280 BS. My core voltage on CPU-Z still only showing 1.264V should i take it up more i would really like to hit around 3.6 (at 2.5 now) and yes its liquid cooled hotest core running at 40C now

Ideally, you should try for 3.6 with no more than 1.3 volts. you can go higher, but temps will suffer.

What motherboard do you have, it's possible that it's not really *meant* for quads. If it's only a 3 phase or so, they may take account for a large vDroop/vCore.

I would try to reset your bios (remove battery, start, turn off, replace battery). Maybe you have some setting that was changed that is causing problems. You also may want to disable C1E and Enhanced Speedstep.

Im running a GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 G965 775 says its ment for quad core? you think thats the problem if so whats a good one ill head to frys now lol

In the bios disable C1E and EIST, they make your cpu slow down after windows starts untill you need the rest of the power

I looks like the board only has a 3 phase mosfets. You could try a bios update, that may help fix some compatibility issues. What kinda of RAM are you using, if you have 533 DDR2, it may be overclocking it too far. You also may not have the FSB:RAM set to 1:1.

That did it got me to 300 BS and 9 at 1.3v im going to try bringing it up now ill post my final results

I have no idea what "3 phase mosfets" means should i get a new board would there be a large difference in performance if so what do you suggest (note that its working now)? Ram = DDR2 6400 8 gigs ( i know ill never use it but it was so cheap)

Ok got her up to this cant seam to get it any higher and maintain stability guess im stuck at this

mmm well that's better; but the board is droopy probly; try more volts til you get to 1.3V in cpu-z :hehe:
fan on your northbridge?

or leave it at 3.0; wotever.

Ok set the voltage to 1.35V and 300 BS instant crash
why would this be?
spose it's the board depending how hot yr nb is you could try upping the nb volts...but board probly too limited.

try this

also turn off vdroop in bios

also turn off vdroop in bios

hmmm cant find that in the bios also it seams my system is not as stable as i thought I cant see two of my 4 hard drives

Have you found the official thread for that board here in the forums? I'm sure someone would have posted specific BIOS settings for their 6600. You may find settings you need to change in order to do what you want.

It's a G965 chipset, my god. Don't expect miracles. It won't OC quadcores good, especially the DS3. Also, there's noo vdroop option on 965 chipset boards, they are ages too old. You'll have to bump too much vcore to balance the vdroop. With such a board, I'd be very happy with 333 FSB

Yup Jonny is right it's a medicore MOBO with weak Phasing not build for Quad Cores. I would switch it to 9x266 and sit tight and silent.

For 3.6Ghz your gonna be looking at a voltage closer to 1.4v if your lucky!

If your water cooling and keep core temps below 70C on load just keep pushing the voltage....although as mentioned your motherboard is probably gonna hold you back on the power front and your memory might not be able to obtain a high enough frequency to get you up to the necessary FSB (try memory dividers).

what strap he is trying to run the mem at makes a big diff looks like he just got the stuff 400Mhz rated ram not good for oc'ing ( have a set ) ANYWAY
if your leaving the mem devider on ddr2 800/3:2 in the bios then it is holding you back more than the volts issue you need to set it down to ddr2 533/1:1
and try rasing up you fsb a little be litle after droping that setting
