I think that we owe a great deal of gratitude to sierra_bound for all that he does for this community. He must spend countless hours searching the web to find us such great deals (I personally have purchased several items after seeing his fantastic finds) and for all the time it must take to compile the "WCG" and "BOINC" stats for us. S_B is the kind of man that never asks for a slap on the back for all his hard work and I imagine will be a little embarrassed by this thread. But he does so much and asks for so little this was long overdue.

So lets all raise a glass (beverage of your choice) to S_B for his dedication to this team. Thanks S_B. :toast:

Agreed 1000%..
And this is way overdue.
Sierra to me is one of those guys that really is what we're all about.
Does his thing quietly and does all he can do to help.
The team and the site would be a lesser place without him.
Thanks Sierra..

Man, he finds us hardware deal too? Guess I haven't been around quite long enough to catch wind of all that, though I didn't have to be here long at all to see what a dedicated and helpful class act S_B most definitely is.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. We have a great team. Just doing my little part to help the members. Helping science is of course the main mission. But I've always been moved by the generosity of the people here. I think that's one of the important lessons of distributed computing. It teaches the value of giving rather than receiving.

Keep up the good work!

Yeah, good idea. A big thumbs up for S_B!

For going the extra mile, and being the consummate contributing teammate. On three fronts, at least. Milestones, hardware, latest versions ( and heads up (s ) on issues concerning WCG that affect us as crunchers ).

Bro, you got too much time on your hands! :)

You're doing your patriotic duty by helping to boost the sagging economy.

My mouse-hand has been debating all day whether to put that monitor I've been looking at in the cyber shopping cart. Bad hand.:D

I've come to the conclusion after a whole 3 days of having an LCD monitor that it is a prerequisite that everyone have at least 2-24"LCD's..:p:

I'm a sporadic shopper. Weeks, even months, will go by in which I don't buy anything. Then I will go on a buying binge. My wife buys all my clothes. That's how much I hate shopping at the malls. Home Depot is the only place I will visit on a semi-regular basis, mainly to buy light bulbs.

I've become frugal (euphemism for "cheap") in my old age. When I was younger, I liked fancy sports cars. Owned a Porsche and a few other nice vehicles. Now I don't care anymore, as long as it doesn't break down. I also have a habit of holding on to things for a long time. I had a Sony Trinitron that ran for 24 years before it finally died. I think I got my money's worth.:D Also have a 10 year old CRT that I still use for monitoring some of my crunchers.

Trinitrons are built like tanks. I work in the broadcasting industry. Most of the professional monitors are Sony's. The irony is that I watch very little television at home. I guess when you spend your day in front of banks of monitors, the last thing you want to do is watch more TV.:D

My wife watches a lot of TV. I'm planning on getting her a plasma later this year.

hehe, I have 3 and am toying with the idea of getting a 4th. My other option is one is only being used as a TV monitor for the computer in my bedroom. So I could just upgrade my 32" lcd in the family room and use that upstairs to free up another 24" screen form computers.
