:welcome:

Hello,
here is my log for watercooling amazing CoolerMaster Stacker 832

First of all let me introduce how it was before

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/893/img1685uy2.jpg

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/1748/img1698pk0.jpg

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1819/img1705hv3.jpg

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7452/img1716sh3.jpg

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/6605/img1722jl0.jpg

Hardware for my rig will be following:

CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 6420 (gonna change it to Q9450)
Mobo DFI X38
Memory 4x1Gb CSX Diablo DDR2-1200 (Micron D9GMH)
Video XFX 8800GTS 320Mb (don't know is it worth to change it to 3870x2 or wait for the next single chip top from ATI?)
HDD Samsung F1 1Tb
Sound Creative X-Fi Platinum
Some SATA DVD RW with lightscribe
PSU Seasonic M12 700W

And water parts will be these
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7194/img1527om1.jpg

Radiators: Thermochill PA120.2 and Thermochill PA120.3
CPU block: D-Tek Fuzion
Pumps Laing DDC1-T 10Watt with EK Top 3/8 barbs (choose 10W to have lower noise, higher reliability, hope they will be enough for my loops)
Reservoirs EK Multioption 150
Waterblock for memory MIPS Ram Freezer 4 (coz i almost hate such air coolers as OCZ or Corsair)
Chipset block: EK ASUS3 (but i think it wont fit on new DFI X38, so i need to get smth else)
Later i'm planning to add mosfet and video blocks.

And I'm going to build a dual loop setup.

Ok, now let's go

Nice selection of parts. Be careful with using the gel stuff under the Laing DDCs. They tend to heat up quite a bit and can cause the pump to fail.

I second that, the gel even deformed a bit under my RD30, so it works well under non heated items for shock absorbing.

I need to make 4 major cuts: top, bottom, bottom stand (where wheels are) and mobo tray.
Friend of mine did all the hardest work for me

Top

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/9249/img1803vy0.jpg

Bottom

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4093/img1805xv3.jpg

Stand

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8462/img1808wj2.jpg

And tray

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1508/img1809rl7.jpg

Next I did a big work with sanding and smoothing edges. Result was excellent
Then I did 4 brackets for mounting rads, and drill a bunch of holes.

Bottom radiator is ready

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2645/img1826hj5.jpg

Sk8board is ready

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7356/img1831po8.jpg

Top radiator is ready

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2555/img1827ye2.jpg

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3084/img1838pm4.jpg

And tray is ready also

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2347/img1841qb9.jpg

Clean that puppy out.

rioja

Sure, i will clean all my parts when will be doing final assemble. My PC is in veeery dusty and dirty room, and i'm too lazy to clean this room regularly :)

Now some additional shots.

Clearance between floor and rad is 3cm. I hope it will be enough, if not then i may rise a rad ~1cm higher and make another wheels.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/776/img1844ab8.jpg

I like my Seasonic M12 700 Watt, it is very quet and has standard size so it is possible to have 120.2 and PSU at the top

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/469/img1868uw1.jpg

UFO hangar

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/7908/img1895ww9.jpg

In my opinion top rad has enough air. I will make additional duct in top-front plastic cover, to get more air.

Case inside

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/7435/img1871uh5.jpg

And just like this pic

http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/7646/img1879um4.jpg

Next step will be doing 3 major things: mounting res, mounting pumps, cutting the hole in plastic cover.
After that it will be painted, not sure with color yet, black is annoying already for me.

Thats all for now, please standby :)

very nice :) the rad on the bottom is fine i have the 831 with the rad mounted on the bottom and the is no problem with it and the temps the only problem is the dust :/ the bottom rad is pulling the dust like crazy :(

A litle update, reservoirs installation.

I've made 2 alu stripes, 1.5cm wide

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7251/img1954pj6.jpg

mounted the holders

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/8931/img1961en2.jpg

and cut 4 holes in the case. Here is how it turned out

from inside

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/5598/img1963wr3.jpg

and outside

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8757/img1979le4.jpg

Stripes are thin and quite unnoticeable and at the same time solid and almost don't bind.

I'm satisfied.

You should use the left barb of the res for a better bleeding process.

Thank you guys for comments and advices!

I finished some more work and ready to share results.

Next after reservoirs, it's time for a pumps.

Pumps are Laing original DDC1-T 10 W, with EK tops 3/8 barbs

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6518/img1997fl0.jpg

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5922/img1999ip8.jpg

Also I have some antivibration/sounddumpening pads, not sure what material

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3825/img2124ze4.jpg

but most ppl say do not use it, correct?
So for awhile i skipped it, and mounted pumps directly to the case. Too sad that Laing don't include any mountings, holders, bolts etc to their pumps, and I had to use any stuff I could find. Maybe I wiil buy smth special for this somehow.

More 4 holes in the case, and pumps are in the case.

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9427/img2064tj4.jpg

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/9775/img2065oh3.jpg

Between front panel and pumps a left some space for 12 Cm fan (optional).

Next mod, and one of the most difficult i think, was a making air vent at front-top cover, to get top rad brief better and just coz of cool look. This step required a big accuracy becoz it is computer face :)

After you cut rear wall on those cover, you will get some gap and bindings of the bottom wall, becoz it rests into the rear. So I installed a mesh from 5.25 bay cover, and made some support. Now it seats and holds same firmly as before mod.

Look how it is

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/824/img2076rh5.jpg

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1880/img2089ma7.jpg

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/5125/img2096zq2.jpg

Since only one HDD will be in my rig I decided to throw out HDD cage and use smth else.
I always like production of Zalman Korea, since time of my first mod, becoz of high quality and excellent look. And I am glad that product from them may find place in my setup :)

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4498/img2020oa0.jpg

Res is ok now :D
The spacers from the HDD cooling thing are good to mount your pumps :p
They are good against vibration ^^

Res is ok now :D

I thought exactly about the same, perhaps this is the best Zalman product ever
I even can spend another $25 for one more cooler, specially for 5-6 more of these legs, it would be quite silly though :)
I already have 2 addititional legs for spare (manual said it should be only one for spare though).
But pump has only 2 mounting points, so if I'll do smth like this

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/6900/img2135ev3.jpg

it won't be a good?
Or I can make some kind of stands, cut a circle in middle, where motor is, mount pumps to this stand, and tight stand to case through 3 or 4 Zalman legs. So each pump will have 3 or 4 mounting points then. What do u think?

One more advantage from pumps with Zalman standofs is fan in front, blowing to the pumps and HDD

Anyway, I've finished installing last thing - HDD

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8868/img2034dn1.jpg

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1460/img2108lb4.jpg

I need an option to install fan in front of pumps and HDD, so I had to lift HDD by drilling 4 more holes. Next how it looks at whole

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1605/img2118ab8.jpg

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/4822/img2121lr4.jpg

Finally! Case ready for painting :bounce:

Very very nice...

You are doing exactly what im planning to do with me CM Stacker 830. My only difference there is that I would be using an additional Single RAD at the back of the case... hook them all up to one loop and have the 3 different rads between components... Top Dual RAD ---> CPU ---> NB Block ---> Rear Single RAD ---> Single ATI 3850 (CF Later) ---> Tripple Rad ---> Pump ---> RES ---> 288 Watt TEC (To Chill The Liquid) Back to Top Dual RAD. Im planning on using the new Koolance blocks. Still not sure what RES and Pump Ill be getting.

The TEC will get cooled by a Cooler Master GeminII.

PS Give us some Temps when you got it all going will ya. WEEEKEEED!!!

You're doing very similar to what I'm doing, just out of curiosity though, where did you get the brackets you've got holding your tripple rad in place or did you make them yourself?

I need to get my stacker modded and up and running within the next 3 weeks in order to make i33, nothing quite like a deadline! :D

Brackets are some sort of building materials. I've got couple meters of these, just cut length i needed and drill a holes. They're made from aluminium 1.5-2 mm thikness.

What is i33?

I may have to have a look out at the builder merchant. i33 is a massive LAN party in the UK.

I need my case all spruced up for then. :)

yes, i'm really enjoyed working on it!

and i like idea with cutting tray too, it'll give me more freedom with work with wires. and also i plan to make 2 windows, so from second window i may see second res and some other details. really dont understand why is it most ppl dont cut tray, maybe they dream about skulltrail :)

as for 120.2, u may fit it at top if your psu standard sized. i moved it to front as much as possible, but if you will go further and make some additional mods with front panel, i think it might be posiible to shift it ~1 cm more to front.

and good luck with your build, you gave me a lot ideas already ;)

My progress is slow, but it is!

I have found that blocks like a Swif MCW30 or Enzo NB dont cover north bridge at 100%.
So I made special frame for EK Asus 1 block, and it fits perfectly, fully covering heatsink

Q9450 was in my initial plan, but later i was scared a liitle about possible limit at 480-490 fsb. So i moved to 2 cores and ordered new 45nm Xeon 3110.
Now i am worried about how DTek Fuzion will perform on 2-cored cpu? Should i get nozzle kit maybe?

Question: the barbs on the FuZion are D-Tek barbs... but on the Northbridge block... I have the same barbs, what brand are they?
They're really similar to D-Tek barbs but slightly different... perfect for 7/16 ID tubing though

I got these barbs

http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p2031_13mm--1-2---Schlauchanschluss-G1-4-mit-O-Ring--High-Flow-.html

And I use 7/16 tubes, only bad thing that i could easily pull tubes on barbs, but can't remove them later, tubes seat very firmly.

Hi

Rioja

Great ideaa about the rad in the top:up:
have now done the same and provides much more space:D
than the rad vertical in the front
good idea about the cables aswell
are you using the ddc 18w ultra pumps
how have you found the best way to stop the vibration /noise to a minium
cheers

rioja
04-25-2008, 08:48 AM
beast200

no, pumps are 10w, don't know about their noise and vibration coz didn't turn them on yet.
but i'm leaning to mount them vertically as in pictures before, either directly to the case or through rubber zalman legs.
for now i stuck with cable sleeving and finding best way to place them, have to do it quick, before my vacation after tomorrow

Vatos_locos
04-25-2008, 08:57 AM
jioja why don't you mod the pups to 18Watt ?

rioja
04-25-2008, 09:21 AM
Vatos, thanks for the link, maybe i'll do the same later.
But I believe that 10W has less heat, noise, vibrance and more reliable, and hope it'll be enough. I used Martin's flow estimator, and it seems 10W will give quite a good flow.

Main loop I plan is: DDC1-T -> PA120.3 -> D-Tek Fuzion -> Some video fullcover -> EK res
Secondary loop is: DDC1-T -> PA120.2 -> MCW30 -> EK NB Asus 1 -> MIPS PWM -> MIPS RAM -> EK res

And alittle more pics before my time-out.

I made several extension cables and adapter cables, to control several fans as one. Here are cables 3->1 for triple rad, and two 2->1 for dual rad and for case front and back fans.

http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/7079/img2470ca0.jpg

There are 7 fans Coolermaster PL12S12L-4 with red leds in the case, and one more for spare, not sleeved..

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6623/img2480zn1.jpg

Now plug rads and case fans to DFI connectors. Radiator fans will be connected to rheobus latter, becoz DFI is very very weak board regerding monitoring and controls. ACtually I very disapointed with this lack of functionality.

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8201/img2492eq4.jpg

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/1976/img2490su6.jpg

As for cable mangement. i'm very happy how smart stacker case is.
Becoz of niches in top area, where psu and rad are, and niches on the sides od drive bays, it is easily posssible to get simple clean rig. Case is very good

Great job with the cable management. :)

You should sleeve the 8 pin extension cable though.

is that a bong ? or a lamp?

It's a Hookah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hookah).
Not a bong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bong).

rioja

it's rather a hookah, but with a bong functionality :D

I'd would never use a hookah as a bong... At least my opening is waaay to big to seal airtight.

more details here
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=217248

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/6482/152x.jpg

fortunately i had some stuff

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5742/154m.jpg

and it all turned out as silent work with properly airflow

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/3531/170.jpg

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/4646/187j.jpg

dimms came with heatsink not installed as special order
coz i have mips ram freezer to watercool them

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9908/203dvi.jpg

stock speed is 1200mhz

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/9411/204.jpg

but here i am in doubt what to use, so i decided to install stock heatsink and see how it will warm
and i may switch to watercool dimm later

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/7545/215l.jpg

oh no, i have ordered wrong additive, it is not uv

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8104/217cnw.jpg

but in 50:50 proportion (with 5:95 default) is is quite bright in daylight ;)

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/1034/223z.jpg

air thermosensors from kaze master panel
so i have full control over temp, 4 temps are measured - loop 1, loop 2, case inside, ambient

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/4896/284g.jpg

this thing installed wrong

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8079/333a.jpg

board's system (pwm) temp is higher than with stock heatsink now

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7207/newbitmapimage2ju1.png

someone from other forum gave me a key why
i left stock washers which has big height
so contact between block and mosfets is bad

so i'm going to reassemble system
also my plan is to install fullcover video block in second loop
and make water with uv adds, and install the light
and project will be finished for awhile

funny, tomorrow will be one year since it was started :)

in which block you used for the mosfet? i got EK's one..

and why you put your graphic card on the second slot?

those blue things u mean? they are from cooler master hdd box, it came with case but u may buy it separatly
http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=65&id=2542

btw it is so un-practical that ddc has only 2 mountings, with their vibrance
so i made 4 points of rest, 2 points in case itself thru big holes

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3334/166e.jpg

and other 2 thru pump's mountings

arkadur
all my hardware was ordered one year ago :) at those time only single option for pwm cooling was mips pwm freezer
on other hand this block compatible with all dfi lt\ut boards from p35 to x58
so it was future investment
i'd like to see how ek looks and what is performance
btw do 2 big cpl chips leave fingerprint on ek block?

as for video in 2d slot, this way system just looks more loose, when parts are not close to each otgher
also my new video is old 8800gtx with 27cm length, and in bottom slot it would be too close to reservoirs barbs

I think you should change the title to 'bong build'. Kindof catchy and will guarantee lots of views!

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1920/img0314b.jpg

http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/1762/86821611.jpg

this whirlpool i use to estimate flow

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7/img0328wcr.jpg

and get poor results
fuzion can't keep a temp, same as pwm cooling through the heatpripes and mcw-30
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8732/83844235.jpg

running 4200-4400 temps getting even worse
so i have to re-config cooling

this guy goes to south

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3919/img0350j.jpg

(part from dfi x-38 lt)

this guy goes to pwm

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/8567/img0344mux.jpg

and mcw-30 left in nb

for cpu i will use heatkiller lt

get naked

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/1278/img0363d.jpg

here is one of the reason of poor stock cooling

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/2041/img0395t.jpg

and finally funny bug from dfi
if connect stock sound card i e bernstein audio, led fan connected to nb connector will lit even if the board shutted down!
officially confirmed :D

The colour of liquid (pink? red?) is not the best one fot this mobo. Better change it to maybe a black one.
The rest looks nice.
What did DFI did with cooling is .........n/c

yes guys you are right, colors don't match a bit, and i'm going to completely change color scheme later, powder coat the case etc
meanwhile i'd like to share last pics with dfi
properly watercooled dfi i have to admit :)
here we go

http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/1897/img0437c.jpg

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7429/img0435wes.jpg

http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/3319/img0408j.jpg

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/9194/img0428c.jpg

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9779/img0422q.jpg

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/9470/img0445r.jpg

http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/4707/img0444.jpg

after all that and more tests i've learned three issues about this mobo:
1. it is UNCOMPATIBLE with D0 procs at >200 bclk :shocked::shocked:
2. pwm temp is still very high even with waterblock. it is getting up to 68C with 4300 1.37v
3. it makes loud hissing sounds under load

well so i decided to try smth different, and i'm happy of it :up:

yes, with dfi nothing works right except direct airflow
even separate block for pwm barely holds a temp

but with foxconn same scheme works great
