Well after reading that the 3870 uses the 1800/1900 mounting, just ripped apart my my card just to find that there is a 2mm gap between the block and core. The 1900 mounting bracket legs are just too long.

So what's the deal? 2900 has larger spacing correct? So which mounting do I need?

This is really frusterating, between this and comcast being out in my area.... I can't even flash a new bios and overclock it.

I'm posting from my phone so forvive typos

I'm 200% sure. I'm not talking about that one, I mean the chrome one on the wb itself. Holes line up 100% perfect, but there is a 2mm gap that's visible when bolted together. I tried a few times, my thermal goop barely made contact as well.

I literally unbolted it from my 1950pro, added mx2 and bolted it to my 3870, removed and checked tim and ithen verified the gap

the block has a gap but it also has the cooper on the middle of the block raised so it has contact with the core

Even with the raised step in the block there is a gap. I'd post pics but internet is down

i think there where 2 revision of the block mine is the newer the old could not fit in some series of vga's what rev is you block ?
but it doesn't seams right are you sure that you have mount the chrome plate the right way ? i mean mine has only the bolts from the upper side you block is that way ? did you accidentally put any other bolts or anything else under the chrome plate and the block raised in hight ?

take your time with the pic's :)

i think what jimmer is tryign to say is that its not clamping on properly. the block and the backplate.

the screws are too long?

Nope, even if I rest the block on the pcb there is a gap. You know the 4 legs you screw into on the chrome thing? Its like they are too long. Screws go in all the way and block fits snug.

I have an earlier mcw60, I bought it right before the 8800 adapter was released so all I have is the ati and the nv adapters (nv one is mia).

The chrome plate on mine almost looks curved. Anyone know where I can buy the original mounting hardware? Its either that or a new waterblock I think
