Question for the guys running something similar to the thread title.

I will be swapping out my magicool triple rad that i have on the cpu loop atm for either a mcr320 or pa 120.3

Loop (not in order)

ek supreme/fuzion-quad noz - rad of choice - res - ddc 3.2 / petras top

I was wondering what kind of temps the guys with a similar setup were getting? In what ambients

I'm looking for best temps but i don't know if i can justify the $115 extra for the thermochill. So leaning towards the mcr320.

cheers fellaz

I remember watching your early build thread and wondering why you didn't go with the thermochill in the first place.. We all know watercooling is a never ending process. Just get the thermochill, trust me

mcr320 is a great rad but your always going to want better.. I would always get the pa120.3 for my main loop and mcr220/320 for my supporting loop..

everybody needs a thermochill in their loop. period.. go for it.. and you'll never doubt yourself

mcr320 is $85 in Aus 120.3 is $200 in Aus

What kind of temps am i going to see with the thermochill over the mcr320 (q6600) 3.8ghz 1.52v 25c 30c ambients

Will be a cpu only loop so neither rad will be pushed to hard.

I had the same issue, trying to decide which Rad to get. I was convinced and jumped for a PA120.3. Looks sooo nice sitting here in front of my now that i got it, only problem is how am i gonna get it to fit!

With a shroud on the thermochill 1 to 2C difference. I picked up my second Swiftech 320 from a guy who went to a thermochill he's been water cooling since before commercial parts were available.

Moving to the thermochill same pump/fan/WB only change was the radiator, 1 to 2C difference. Went from 43cfm yate loon to 53cfm yate loon triple fan setup and added a shroud 2c difference.

Mines not an ideal setup as I traded for my pumps, Swiftech mcp350 (two), 92 gallon an hour per, swiftech apogee wb, zalman NB (on same loop), swiftech triple rad, 3-43cfm yate loon fans in pull configuration. On an Athlon X2 6400, 90nm 125w heat pump, hottest dual core out there, OC to 3.52 @ 1.4 vcore it runs 25C idle, 40C max load 2 hours Orthos.

thermochill are great rads, but price performance with just a cpu in the loop swiftech 320 is over kill. You could throw a VGA WB on there and still run good.

cheers mate

yeah thats why i was leaning towards a mcr320 either rad i can run my fans @ low so setup will be quiet..

just wondering what how close to ambient each rad

before I had my northbridge in my loop, my cpu only loop temps were the following.. with a thermochill pa120.3 and 3x medium speed yate loons

q6600 @ 3.825ghz at 1.52
idle 38c, load >50c with an average ambient of 72F
exact setup pictured in my avatar

hope this helps

cheers mate!!!!

very nice!

so is it safe to assume a mcr320 will be around 2c more same fans same setup?

Either one would be much better than the Magicool anyway. I agree with others and get a MCR320 for a cpu-only loop. A Thermochill might not give you a big difference over the MCR IMHO so save the pennies for other things.

I would say thats safe to say on a single block loop. The performance difference might be even smaller.. The thermochill has a higher heatdump threshold. The PA120.3 will shine more with multiple blocks then the MCR320. If just a single block loop then MCR320 would be the best in terms of price/performance ratio..

thanks for that matey..

I will put the order in for the mcr320 then :)
