using 4 1gb sticks of crucial balistix 8500 ddr2 and cpu-z (version 1.44) sees it as 6400. is this normal??
i removed 2 sticks and still got the same 6400 result.
im also getting errors in memtest with 4 sticks clocked to 890 and 2 sticks at 1066.

asus p5k deluxe mb with latest bios

memtest is failing with 2 sticks at 846?? 8500 should do that without even breaking a sweat. its at 2.2v. tested the ram at stock speeds and get no errors... is there a way to check what speed ram i have been sold?

It have SPD speeds to qualify for JEDEC standard speeds, so there is nothing wrong with SPD values.

What O/s are you using ...If your running 32 bit your gonna have a prob running 4 Gig You need a 64 bit O/S to utilize 4 Gig.Plus you need the update patch to use it in Vista 64.

Jedec dosn't go higher than 6400 so don't worry I run 9200 and it says there 6400 and im running at 1200Mhz O/c
You may need to relax timmings and up the voltage( may have a little droop running 4) a little to run 4 Gig

What are your timmings now?

I have the same Mobo so I may be able to help out.

Also test each stick by its self at rated speed ...one bad stick can cause a lot of problems....been there and done it! You realy need to do this step first!
