Creative lately provided register documentation and other code to the 4Front Technologies (shocker), OSS (Open Sound System). I got my Auzentech Prelude working in 5min.These are directions for a Debian based distributions, I used bleeding edge, daily build of Hardy Heron http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/

Note: You may need admin privileges before using any of the commands, it's done by typing "sudo su" .

1. Go http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi, grab Linux 2.6 deb package, in my case it was amd64 arch
2. Open up terminal, type apt-get install build-essential
3. Open up terminal, cd into Desktop, type dpkg -i oss-linux_v4.0-1013_amd64.deb
4. Reboot
5. Open up terminal, type oss and hit tab, you should be listed with various oss options. Type ossxmix to access the mixer. In my case the volume and pcm values were set perfectly hence no overamplification or any kind of hissing and crackling.
6. Install your favorite audio player and enjoy the music, in my case it was xmms, apt-get install xmms.

I'm very happy now, great news to me. Now we have to wait for ALSA project to catch up.
