Does a Thermal Take Crystal Orb will provide enough cooling for an ATI ALL In WONDER 9700 PRO?

I would say yes, but it's rather old in design. I have one on the northbridge of my KR7A....but its a noisy sucka. I unplugged it from the fan header as I couldn't stand the whine.

If it's all you have....It will move more air and cool better than the factory H/S and fan.:)

How were you planning on mounting it??

i put a crorb on my aiw 9700 pro and gained 10mhz on the core from stock voltage, from 405 to 415

I used the Crystal Orb on my Radeon 9700 Pro and was able to oc to 410 MHz...

Breifly when I didn't have my Swiftech MCW50-T installed, I used the crystal orb on my Radeon 9800 Pro too without any problems.

I removed the shim around the GPU and lapped the crorb. Works great.

i used to have one on my 9700. wored pretty good. i was pretty unknowlegable back when i had it or i would have taken the shim off, and lapped it for better contact :D worked pretty good anyway. I didn't get very good contact with the shim on there so i saw very little increase in overclock...

Shim is that metal thing around the gpu chip...That can come off? Seems glued to me...

I too slapped a Corb onto my 9700 pro. So far, running at 390 no problems, first day overclocking this beast.

yes it is glued on, but you can take it off pretty easily. It would void your warranty but you can always use some thermal epoxy and put it back on again :D

just take a razor blade and slide it between the shim and the top of the chip and slowly pry up and/or slide it to break all the glue off. should pop off pretty easily. you will get much better contact with it off.

don't put an extreme amount of pressure on the core, might be *bad* for it. i wouldn't worry about it too much though. I have a amd server hs screwed down on my 9800 pretty tight and no i'll effects now after a month

i guess the crorb would work ok... but for its price (here in Oz) u might as well get one of the Vantec Iceberg4's or something like that... much better design and quiet as well...
