So... what we've got is 3 pics that don't really look better than X3 Reunion ingame pics, but have just a bit more light in them and the same old .... we have in 3dmark 06? Unimpressed. Not installing Vista again just for that.
No, seriously... the arctic test barely has any motion besides camera motion, the canyon test has AWFUL textures on the actualy canyon (the walls) and the monster isn't very convincing either. Nature is exactly like 3dmark 06 with just 2 lights and all... and battle of proxycon has very wierd lighting. The dude with the machine gun has light coming from the front and he's lighted on his backside and has shade on the front. WTF?

ok download the images, and view them in the pic viewer from win, then after you see the first one in detail move to the next one and so on after that you can imagine yourself the score something in the lines of 1500 points that is the benchmark and that is the way we will see it if its like that

we are still putting the finishing touches on the benchmark and the guys are working overtime to get it done.

Looks like 3 or 4 weeks from now.

Got no date, but I've got the schedule for the preview as soon as soon as it reaches Gold 'status' and about 2 weeks of preview time... so it should be 4 weeks from now ;)

I guess it must evaluate.lol I just tried again and it said this : Either your hardware is too new, too old or too rare - we don't know enough of it to give an accurate estimation. Sorry. I never noticed it the first time I went to the site.

I guess my rig is too old.... :ROTF:

Just remembered of a game released in 2005 (I think) that still looks just awesome even today: Nexus: The Jupiter Incident
You can see some screenshots here:
http://www.nexusthegame.com/index.html?action=showfotopage&fotopageid=12

Mind you that was an entire game, not just an intro or something. Put some better textures on Nexus and it kicks Vantage's ass. And Nexus ran flawlessly with 9800 Pro type hardware... It would be a walk in the park for an 8800GT to render it with HD textures and high AA.

All in all, NOT impressed by 3dMark Vantage so far. It has to be better looking than Crysis to impress me. And that's because it's a benchmark, while Crysis and Nexus are actual games.

Scimitar
02-02-2008, 08:17 AM
Was that intended as a joke? The screenies on that link look about 1/10 as good as the 3dmark Vantage ones to me. Look at the textures and lighting.

gallardo
02-02-2008, 09:32 AM
Yes, textures and lighting. Now consider that that game is from 2004/2005. Put some 2007-2008 textures and lighting on that game and it'll kick Vantage's butt. Remember, Vantage is just like an intro... the camera only goes one way. It's like a movie. Nexus is a game! You can actually move the camera around and see every detail of the ship and of space and you can even move instantly to other ships/places in space. And that can be done with 9800 Pro hardware (or maybe even less). How does a 9800 Pro do in 3dMark 05? Pathetic. 2500 points.

i would have to say that game looks like utter crap. to be honest. how you can even compare it to vantage i don't know. heck star wars empire at war looks a good deal better and any 7600gt could max that easy with full AA. but it is not even ont he same level a Vantage as far a graphics. you seem to forget, Vantage in NOT A GAME it was never designed to be a game or never intended to be a game, it is a 3D benchmark that uses your card to render movie like effects. heck fist thing i thought when i saw this was star wars episode 3 but it looks better than some of their special effects. and when a benchmark looks better than a movie it looks GOOD!

I wonder if we will have to wait half a year for start of usage of the Vantage in reviews like it was with 3Dmark06 ??

Who waited half a year for what ?
"Decent" reviews websites started using 3D Mark06 as a bench just after it got released.
Also some had a "preview/introduction" on the launch date.

Same applies with Vantage... some sites will have 3D Mark Vantage real soon for "private previewing"/etc, and the launch date is approaching as well.
