The CPU is limiting the 8800GTS big time at leist...

Yer why bench a good card with an outdated CPU?

I think the results will be different with a better CPU.

The card looks nice though. I think we are all over dual slot coolers. 384mbs, does that mean 384bit bus aswell??

If its a decent price it will be the card to have for mid to high end gaming, at least untill the 9xxx are released.

No the cards use a 192bit bus. Leave it to Nvidia to keep coming up with unorthodox memory interfaces... And the CPU is not really "outdated" as it's based on the Conroe core, but it is a slow of a Conroe as you can get.

I think he is trying to prove that the GS can be used in a value configuration and still perform quite well. The Celeron E1200 would bring a bit of a higher number in 3DMark and still cost pennies per performance.

Well I guess even with only a 192bit bus (which is really stupid) it's still better than the 8600GTS so as long as it's around that price range people will buy it.

What I dont understand is why make the thing? Is it to close the gap from the 8600GTS to the 8800GT?

That heaps better. Better to see how it preforms using a CPU more suited to the task.

Hmm it preforms reasonably well, is it much better than a 8600GT? or perhaps a 3850, which you can also purchase pretty cheep. It just doesnt seem justified to have made this card.

Looks like a good budget performer..

if you don't need to run 1920 and 1024 is your thing..this is a perfect card.

I jsut tested my new XFX 8800 gs and it looks fine (8900points in 2006mark). allthough i have one question.I remember that in my 7900gto i could change my fanspeed so it raises when temperatures raises. I didnt find that option in atitool 0.26 with this card so is there any way to do that in this card??....this card sound little bit loud you know but not badly (idle temperature around 30c :)

Now i have tried atitool, rivatuner and ntune and none of these understands my card correctly. So i think there will be update so one of these will understand this card and i then i can adjust the fanspeeds.Until then i must listen this horrible sound

In your screenshots your card is correctly recocnized, how is that?. In Rivatuner, under "driver settings" you have the "customize"-text and i don't have that....Why??. I have the same forceware version 169.32 installed and xp sp2.

Well..yes. You need use modded rivatuner.cfg file. I uploaded this file ,so you can download it: http://rapidshare.com/files/90906914/RivaTuner.cfg.html

Copy this file to rivatuner folder ,and rewrite old file!;)

Jep now it seems to work ok but when i make new fan profiles and try to use them nothing happens. Minimum is 25% and max 100% but there is no difference in the noise between those values so it looks like i cant control fanspeeds at all. It sounds its allways 100% and the temperature is well under 65C when playing. This card sounds horrible in my livingroom..... :shakes:

just something i noticed..

the eVGA card comes with 1ns memory..
the Asus card comes with 1.1ns memory...
the XFX card comes with 1.4ns memory.. and it comes overclocked to 800mhz.. watch out for the XFX.. many of them are dying.
