OK, I have the Alpha PAL8045, as mentioned in my sig, and after having a good rummage around on XS, I have noticed that when it comes to mounting a HSF or waterblock or evap head etc, contact is king.

I have another few weeks to go before I get a DangerDen kit to finally cool this rig well, and I was just wondering if it would be worth me popping a couple of washers into the Alpha mounts to increase the pressure on my CPU?

And also, if it's not too much trouble, could someone explain the whole contact thing to me, with pictures if possible, as I'm not quite sure what to be looking for when checking for good contact.

Regards,
Your faithful n00b.:D

i used the extra washers from my 8045 to increase the mounting pressure. it was actually so tight that i could read the indentation that the text on my old 1.4GHz Tbird left.

anyway, the best way to test for good contact is to look for lower temps.
