CoolIT Systems Announces Liquid Cooling for AMD’s New Dual GPU Graphic Cards

Calgary, Alberta – January 28th, 2008 - Right on the heals of AMD
announcing the availability of the ATI Radeon™ HD 3870 earlier this month,
CoolIT Systems debuts the third installment in the Reference Series line of liquid
cooling systems designed to quietly and effectively cool Advanced Micro
Devices, Inc.’s highly anticipated performance graphic cards, the ATI Radeon™
HD 3870 X2. In recent testing, the liquid cooled cards were stably clocked up to
over 900MHz core clock speed and the memory pushed to 1GHz with no thermal
issues.

Geoff Lyon, CEO of CoolIT Systems comments “We are proud to successfully,
leverage the micro-channel technology developed at the AMD thermal laboratory
in Toronto in our solution. The cooling system for this card is extremely
sophisticated given that we are cooling what amounts to a full CrossFire™ set-up
on a single card. When you consider that most cards having only 1 GPU are
typically taking up 2 PCIe slots compared to the CoolIT solution which not only
delivers extremely effective cooling and higher clock speeds but also reduces the
thickness to a single slot the combined CoolIT and AMD offering represents
tremendous value.” He added, “We recently benchmarked this card and were
able to hit over 23,500 in 3D Mark 06, which makes this, by far, the fastest
video card/cooling combination we’ve ever tested.”

interesting looking are they going to make it out of copper, if they dont then i think the EK with acrylic will destroy it


also how do u get a chip with a divider error above 860 to 900mhz

It will be hooked up to thier close loop dual bay radiator set up's


as for the 900 they were prob using a EM because they were working with ATI

I see a few 90 degree bends. Does anyone know how much that will reduce flow?

Tons of narrow 90 degree bends. Designers have also forgotten that water flows through the least path of resistance. The "block" closest to the inlet and outlet is going to have most of the water running through it. I see the core nearest to the barbs having a much cooler temp, whilst the farther core cooling no better than the stock heatsink.

not to mention that this is a terrible design for systems that already have length issues on this card. Its already a foot long or something. And now these hoese protrude off the long end. This is really bad, unless you want tubes coming off your pump, out the side, around the case, and in through the front panel? Any takers?

Just based on the design alone it looks bad.

Like everyone said, the 90 bends are going to kill flow, and the barbs are in a ridiculous location.

Is there a bit of brand prejudice here? of course.
Is it un-warranted? No.

Unless they've got some ridiculous fin design over those cores that creates heat exchange far superior to anything we've seen... I wouldn't expect much from this.

I'm all for waiting on results to pass final judgment, but there's no reason to think that this will be anything spectacular. The company's reputation only compounds the fact that this design looks :down: .

If the numbers show differently, or we see some production run shots (maybe some internal shots) that show any promise, I'll change my mind.

Another thing not in his favor is the tubing size, which look very small. I also saw the video of this block in action and it's really tiny...

U can remove the 860mhz lock with a modded bios.

1/4" ID neoprene it looks like.

small tubing+lots of 90 bends = trouble.
