Hi guys!

Since the AMD FASN8 platform has been pretty much put on hold at best
if not completely scrapped, is AMD still planning to release the PhenomFX
90/91 socket F+ processors?

Im sure there will be PhenomFX's, however I dont know what sort of extra's they'll have to offer as we've Black Editions now as well.

If they'll be for socket F, I dont think so to be honest. But you never know though;)

i dont see the need of a FX CPU with the black edition

Well, tbh I never saw the need of any Black Edition/FX version if you managed to get a good mobo and a decent CPU with a multi of about 10.

However unlocked multiplier make things a lot easier, but that's what the Black Edition atm does already. So if the FX comes it might become some sort of Intel Extreme CPU, like more cache? Improved core architecture maybe, I dont know.

But as I said, after all there's no need at all for a Black Edition/FX CPU. But it does the OC possibility as it is now.

...good mobo and a decent CPU with a multi of about 10.
But Phenom have HTref wall at ~230-260MHz so with 10x multi you don't oc it well even with good mobo.

That's mobo limited, not CPU. The more and better BIOS's get out the higher the wall gets;)

Thought the FX's were better selections, the BE seems to be binned no better than the regular X2 6400's for example, and the 9600 BE seems to overclock like :banana::banana::banana: so far.

9600 BE are not binned cores, that's why they're the same price as 9600. To me they look like the 9700 and 9900 downclocked and unlocked and I'm 65% sure this is what they'll be.

The PhenomFX 90/91 from what I read are socket F+ (socket 1207+).

I think they were meant for the FASN8 platform.

In any case I'm curious because they are supposed to be compatible the L1N64-SLi WS.

I don't think you're going to see Phenom FX anytime soon. AMD will not release an FX processor that is not going to compete with Intel's top of the line. You saw this with the X2 6000+/6400+; originally, these were to be the FX-64 and FX-66 and appeared on AMD's roadmaps back in 2006. Yet, since they were sold for a low price and didn't compete with Intel's high end, they were not called "FX".

AMD has cancelled the dual socket enthusiast platform, there will be no more iterations. http://www.nordichardware.com/news,7097.html, they have commented that they will provide an upgarde path to current users of the platform, but are not clear on details of what or when.

Here is another news report.
