Hey Everybody,

Yep, I'm back with another rad issue.....

The clickable pix below show the problem:

These are aluminum fans. I don't have a mill or access to one. I would hate to see the outcome if I attacked it with a dremel......:ROTF:

Anybody have any ideas on how to beat this....?

EDIT: Going to see if I can drill new "outside" (outward) holes.....maybe that will work.....sheesh. :shock2:

TIA

Fan spacing varies rad to rad. It looks like that rad has some of the tightest.

Get some plastic fans that don't have that fat of a sidewall. Like some Yate Loons...

Hi Nate,

I really wish my life was that easy.......:p:

But I am doing a dual Turbine in a SSF lunchbox:

The reason I went with this particular rad was general performance----and Size!

The aluminum fans give it the "Turbine" look. About the only thing I'm willing to swap them out for is the Areocool Turbine fans. Going for the look, limited by the size.

So, ultimately--I have to make this work!

Any ideas with these specific parts?

I'm looking into the possibility of drilling new outside holes now.....

Just file down the aluminum sides with a hand metal file. Very cheap at any hardware store.

Yeah hand flie and some fine sandpaper should give you the clearence you need with minimal effort and cost. It doesn't look like you need to shave off more than a few mm or the AL on one or both fans.

Ok, drilling any new holes isn't going to work.

Not sure what I was thinking, but I do have a mitre/chop saw with metal cutting blades--so, tomorrow I should be able to just shave a bit off each side and check until they fit! :dammit:

Shouldn't take more than 20-30 mins to get it done....

Thanx, Guys!

You could also "lap" the side of both fans, to create a little more clearance. Use some heavy grit metal sandpaper.

why bother using aluminium fans? the heat from the rad cannot be transferred or effeciently transfer to the aluminium fans ..

this is same with the alu fans on any casing .. the temp is always same ..

Did you read or just look at the pics?
His motif requires them for its turbine look.

I'm with the others. File, grind or belt linish a few mm off them. Al really is soft and woodlike to work.

yah file it nice. start with flat bastard, then smooth bastard file...

much like when i had to shave a few mm of mnpctech machine billet fan grills...

it can be done!

you could make a shroud, or mount the fans seperate to the rad.

Not enough room for a shroud.......

Thanx for the input, Guys. The chop saw did the trick! :rocker: I filed a little after and lap it a bit, but it was a pointless effort. Its a non-viewable area, so it really doesn't matter that much.....

Here's the results:

smaller bolts or larger holes for the screws (in the fan itself) would also give you a little room, but it may be easier to file down the sides a bit.
