graphicscards do nothing for crunching, except producing noise and using power, so many people use ancient passive cooled low power gpu's.

so, just how ancient is the one you guys are useing? (pics welcome, but not necessary)

i'll start...

Matrox Millenium II PCI from 1997

From my Gateway P1-200 bought in March 1997. a 4mb STB/Virge PCI card.
Was a $40.00 option back then!

I've got a Matrox Mystique in one of my crunchers and I believe it's older than that Milennium you've got there :D

I'm not running the system at the moment, not worth the powere. It's an old P3 600.

I've got an onboard Rage 3D Pro on a P2 400... but that's not crunching (not worth the power it seems, plus it has no OS and not connected to the net).

Matrox Millenium II PCI from 1997

I don't know the difference between Millenium and Millenium II, I've got 3 or 4 Milleniums of some sort, I think they're '96 vintage, if I remember I'll look when I'm back home this weekend. I've got one on the World Grid right now !

Take your pick: Numbernine Imagine 128 Pro (I think thats what it is... 1995) or Matrox MGA (1995).. actually one of the ATi cards i've got around could be older..

Have an ISA Hercules card somewhere around here that's from about 1990.... ;)

S3 Virge cards...more than one of them thanks to DDT and NJkid. DDT picked up an entire lot on ebay and sold some to us. I bought about 25 assorted cards....I still run them now. Thanks Victor and Eric! They are around 1995 vintage or perhaps a bit older.

Well if you're going to go by the oldest PART of your video card rather than the age of the card as a whole, then I win because my 7900GT has Carbon atoms in it that date to the beginning of time !

I'm upset.. I can't actually USE my oldest piece of ancient history that I've kept around for dust collection purposes. My pride and joy was a Diamond Viper.. 4mb I think. Was 400 bucks for that card when it came out.. and made autocad fly back then. Of course... now a nintendo ds probably has more computing power than my cad rig did then. I'd stick it in a cruncher in a second if I could... sadly.. its a VLB card.. kinda difficult to find a cruncher worth running with one of those slots. Pretty sure there's a beastly ISA card that was in the old Alpha machine, but its not as old as that viper!
