The only news I can find on it is from last year, so I couldn't tell you in concrete terms. Then again, neither can Intel.

The thing that sucks is that I want to let it ride for a month or two so BIOS and board revisions can stabilize.

X48 officially supports 1600FSB and tighter internal (chipset) latencies. Basically, it's a more stringently binned X38.

Supposed increased overclocking capabilities and additional features added on by the motherboard manufacturer.

I think the release date has been postponed until they clear enough X38 stock to suit their needs.
