Ive seen the other current thread on temperature probes, but i thought id make my own anyway.

I have one of these

http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45&products_id=64

Im going to dremel a hole in one of my 5.25 " mesh covers on the left hand side for it to sit, then mount my home made fan controll toggle switches next to it.

Question is, where should i mount the sensor, id like to know temps of the water.

I dont think id be able to screw the cap of my MCRres on with this thing dangling into the res, any ideas where it could go?

I know this might be a really stupid question and excuse my ignorance, but is there a difference between sensors that can go in water and ones that work in air?
I always thought the two were different.

Actually, it will fit in the stop of the MCRes with the screw in. I have the Tt temp sensor (which has since been removed from it's crappy t case) just sitting in the bottom half of the res. it seems to sit where there is a bit of water turbulence so the temp's tend to go crazy under heavy load.

There a few different ways to do this. You can drill a small hole into one of the reservoir's plug caps, insert the probe a couple of inches through the hole, then seal the plug with epoxy glue. Also, you can do the same thing with a T-line coupler. Insert the probe into the top barb and seal it with epoxy, then just place the coupler inline with the loop.

@Eddie3dfx - not all temperature probes are compatible with water, but most are. The digital ones that came with my T-balancer fan controller use a tiny circuit board which contains the digital sensor. I'm 99% sure that these are not waterproof.

Edit:
I took a pic of the temp probe that I made and the digital probe that I have.

I am 100% sure the bigNG digital sensors are not waterproof. I fried mine by putting in my reservoir.

You can do this though.

Don't go on sticking unsealed thermistors in water.

Get a 10Kohm probe.

Do you know of any place that has these in stock?

In the UK I do. http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=64

They will ship to the US, maybe a last resort.

Direct from D-tek, or they list their resellers world wide on the site, HERE (http://www.dtekcustoms.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=219).

I cannot tell from the picture is the temp sensor hard mounted in that T or is it screwed in? I was thinking about locating my sensor in my Mirco Res. I ordered a 1/4 bspp tap and drill bit to make some connectors myself out of 1" cast acrylic cubes and to tap a new hole in my res.

Any1 know if the probes that come on the original hardcano12 will work?

They look pretty "sealed" to me from what I can tell

Its screwed in then sealed by who ever made it. The other metal one is just a plain G1/4 thread.

what type of thermal probe do they usually come with. I assume it would be a Type K but I could be wrong.
