i was just checking out Anandtech page and noticed a Gigabyte comp happening until 20th January for N.America and Canada for 3DMARK06 CPU score with monster cash prizes

so far the highest bench was done on a Q6600 G0 lol under 4GHz

you do realize video card won't make a diff, as it wants 3d06 cpu score only, makes the quads the one to go after :D

I'm hoping this cascade I'm whipping up will give me the CPU clocks to secure atleast a placement in either the X38 or P35 category. Really wish I had a QX9650 :(

My X38 board didn't arrive, Newegg screwed up the shipping. I spent about 24 hours fighting with the P35C DS3R to get my 5004MHz validation. For some reason the 13x multiplier didn't work, anything above 1.9vdimm defaulted to 1.9vdimm, and DDR2-840 was unstable at 5-5-5-15 1.9vdimm with any of my memory. DDR2 support on this board seems like it was a last-minute addition, I just completed a 5.4GHz run on my $80 MSI Neo2-FR. I bought this QX9650 just for this competition, it's a beast :yepp:

hah, thanks man, and yeah this board definatly limited the clocks :D, over 100mhz plus less than the p5k3 deluxe and I really had to fight for the 4950, lol, thanks for the headsup man, I would've canceled my order if I didn't see your thread:up:

I wanted to "crush" the competition but even 5GHz was hard to coax out of my board. Now I'm hoping Gigabyte will possibly return my calls, I swear they ignore the phone when they see my number on the caller ID. Yea I had the same issue with the P35 DS3R. After 5ghz it just died. You set 5ghz in the bios and it would set the FSB back down to 333. I had a cold boot issue to with my board. Stupid vdroop and bios options sucked so I only got a quick run it at 4.85.

I tried both, went with f2 first, f5 actually gave me better results, and I tried 1.75-1.85, seemed to need 1.85 to complete at 4950, on the p5k3 I could do ~5066 with 1.75 on dry ice :shrug:

Unfortunately Gigabyte is taking their sweet ass time shipping stuff out. Winners were supposed to be announced the 24th of Jan with 2 weeks lead time for prize shipping. That didnt happen until mid February. Nobody picks up or answers emails.

Same here, this is most disappointing. I have been a long-time supporter of Gigabyte products and I seriously pushed their P965 DS3 for it's superb quality. Now I'm sitting here waiting on a promised X48 DQ6, a check, and no way to contact the company. The one contact I had there doesn't pick up the phone, they don't respond to emails, and the phone operators are no help. Do I need to be a world record holder to get any response? Don't even get me started on attempting to start a press/review relationship with them, I've been stonewalled in bars and I've still had a better chance getting a call back then with Gigabyte :shakes: All I want to do is promote your products :shakes:

It really wouldn't be that bad if they'd simply pick up the phone when you call or reply to their voicemails. I could understand if one of my voicemails was lost/deleted/ignored, but half a dozen? Maybe it's time to move my test-bed over to Asus or Foxconn :(

Feb 8th: Finally get a notification I won and asking to fill out W9. Quote from email. " We will be sending out the prize of ***** by company check and ***** in 2 weeks."
Feb 13th: I reply with W9 filled out and attached
Feb 15th: Reply from them saying prizes will be shipping February 20th.
Feb 26th: Send them email asking for tracking or whats going on.

No reply since. I also left 2 voicemails and I am never able to contact anybody in marketing or the person running the contest. Really dont like the lack of communication

Heh, so it goes with our hobby. Been working in the garage on an autocascade, I keep trying to tell myself that I'm not losing any money as it was built out of spare parts, but those parts had to come from somewhere :shakes: To participate at XS you have to live in a constant state of denial :D
