Use ME for a coaster, go with 2000 or XP PRO.

I like XP, but there are a lot of 2000 fans out there. I have never met anyone who had a good thing to say about ME, it lasted less than a hour on my system before I went back to 98se. I have XP PRO on all my systems now.

For benching, Windows 2000 will produce the best results.

XP Pro is all I use! I experience a little better gaming from 98 Se though.

I agree with Keeper 100% ME is crap! XP or 2000...both have plus and minus points depending on use. :D
W2K is a great Office OS...very powerful features, I like XP Pro for home use.

Is there much of a differance in performance, between win2k and xp pro ?

Ok have a simple and possibly dumb question... why the xp PRO? Is the HOME version OK?

The only big dif I know is the network capabilities... please educate me... or better yet... help me justify spending the do for the PRO

;)

I think Lindows is worse than Winme.
It gets my "worst OS ever" award.

well.. Home edition doesn't support dual processors, remote access and management. probably a lot of other stuff aswell, but this is what I can remember right now. :wiggle:

edit: oh yeah, I use XP pro on the main rig, getting another soon and will go with XP on that on aswell. running *cough*ME*cough* on an older rig and NT on onother.

Don't even consider ME, it's probably the worst and most buggy OS ever.

So that makes it either 2k or XP, both are quite similar but I like XP more. Haven't noticed any performance difference between them.

Installed Win2003 on my laptop and it feels much faster then 2k ( installed before ), might install it on the main rig to see if it is actually faster.

i hear 2003 is crap for gaming, but i dont have any personal experiance so it could have been bs.

it's okay for gaming if you enable hardware acceleration and do some other tweaks

default win2003 isn't good for gaming/benching, but if you tweak it you can get near the performance of winxp

I just recently (since my last post in this thread) switched back to W2K on all my rigs. I realized that XP Pro was crashing on me once in a while and didn't remember any such problem with W2K. Since I went back to W2K, I have had zero problems. So let me change what I said earlier....I use W2K on all my computers now.;)

xp pro over here...works pretty well although I get a problem every once in a while.

I like them both. I'm currently running XP Pro on my main rig, but still have W2K pro on most of my folding rigs.

Running XP Pro here

I'm a 2000 fan. I never have any trouble with it. XP is ok too, but I prefer 2000.

I run XP Pro *cough* corp, legit 2000 Pro, and RedHat 9 on my main system, and 98SE, *cough* 2003, and RedHat 9 on my second system.

I just bought the SuSe Linux CDs and think all my rigs but one are going over to SuSe. I am stumbling around a bit learning a new OS, but it beats the hell out of all the "Windows" bloatware.;)

Xp Pro over Xp home, you have more control and I have not had any networking bugs using it like I did with home. I do have Xp home on a notebook.
Me was really bad, memory leaks required recooting every few hours. Me was the worst OS since Windows 3.0 or DOS 4.

ME if you want to use an OS that's pretty much a virus.

2000 if you're not into eye candy

XP if you're into eye candy and tweaking.

win2000 and winxp seem so much better than win98/wime
when it comes to memory handling and stability..
