I have a Q6600 with an Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard 4gb of crucial ddr2 800 PC26400 a 1kw PSU and a watercooling setup. I'm a newb when it comes to overclocking. I got my system to 3.2Ghz and it wouldn't boot anymore, so I had to reset the CMOS. Anyways I would really like to be able to get my system up to 4.0ghz or 3.8 If anyone could give me any advice and some example settings to work off of and experiment with it would help me out a lot. Everything is on all stock now except the memory which is at 2.2 volts because it won't boot without that voltage adjustment.

What clock speed is your ram rated to...

I'm new to the whole thing so how would I figure that out?

Sorry bro the striker extreme cannot overclock a quad past a 333 fsb very well, it has a problem with the quad just as every 680I board did except for newer revision put out by EVGA. This problem was never fixed in the striker extreme the best your gonna do if lucky is 3.0ghz stable. The only reliable 680I board to overclock a quad are EVGA 680I NF68 T1 and A1

333mhz? I wouldn't say that the 680i is THAT bad at OCing quads. I'm sure there are plenty of ppl getting around 3.6ghz.

if you need 2.2volts just to get ur ram running properly then there is definately something wrong. What speed are you running them at? You can use CPU-Z to check if you don't know.

Well this sucks. Have any good recommendations for a good motherboard to overclock with then?

So you know... Your Ram is PC-6400... (800Mhz DDR2). Or at least that is how fast it's running. Get the bill and look for numbers like 6400 8500...

I have a P5n-32-E-SLI and I used to have an E6750...

It was dead simple to clock the Core2DUO, never bothered with the Q6600...

I'll tell you why. If you keep a CPU load indicator up (ALT CTRL DEL + Performance) and run some Applications, you will see that normally the CPU is hardly taxed. Most games I run (COD4 HL2) don't even register more than 25% load during game play.. So ask yourself, Why am I needing this computer OC'd. If it's just to post a large number in Futuremark, then fine... If it's to make your games run faster... You might be disapointed because your computer is already able to run the game fully with room to spare.

450x8 is possible on the 1303 bios.

Your right, Crysis only takes up 30% of my CPU and 50% of my memory. It's my graphics card that is slowing me down. Do you think you could assist me with overclocking my 8800 GTX? I have never overclocked a graphics card and really could use some help.

A program from Nvidea called

N-Tune

It will let you adjust the clocks.

There is a thread here on the Best clock speeds that the GTX will run safely.
