Hello guys,

my girlfriend got a nice present for x-mas... Her mom told her to pick up a laptop of her choice and it would be hers :D

Since I'm the computer hardware geek in the house, she asked me to look for a good laptop for her...

Keep in mind that she's 18 and she's going to university next year (lots of school work).

So what's the laptop with the best performance/price ratio at the moment?

Thanks guys!

What are you looking for exactly? Speed, Storage, Size, Functionality, battery life, light weight or Bling Factor???
And what kind of work will she be doing on it?
whats your max spending limit?

1. Head to Dell.com and configure an Inspiron 1420

2. Use a coupon code from this (http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp) page for a hefty discount.

3. Enjoy

I have heard and experienced that Dell laptops aren't what they used to be, I prefer the HP/Compaq that I am typing on right now. Also, Sony Vaio's are of very good quality and they released their least expensive laptop (6-$800) about a month ago. As always, getting a good laptop is not the hard part, but getting a good laptop for cheap is. Make sure you scope out all your options before taking the plunge. BestBuy actually has some good laptop deals about once or twice a month but they sell out really fast due to the rabid ebayers.

I would take her with you and let her pick what she wants. you can help make the right selection of hardware but ultimately she is probably not a huge power user so feel and looks will take priority for her. let her pick it just make sure it isn't a bad deal. after all she will be the one using and carrying it etc.
