I have a Gigabyte 790fx board on the way and just read that the sb600 has a speed problem with the sata odd (I assume that means optical disk drive but really have no idea:shrug: ). I read of work arounds but they are too technical for me to follow. Is this an issue that I will notice and is there a fix for it?

Also, is there a thread specifically for overclocking the 790fx boards? thanks.

Great thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=167447) on overclocking, using MSI and DFI 790FX boards.

Not sure speficially which SB600 issue you read about, but there is
a VISTA bug that results in VISTA installations taking hours to complete
when using a optical drive on the SB600 chipset. This is supposed to be
fixed in SP1.

One thing I've noticed, is that booting Windows XP (32 and 64) takes a long time on this motherboard (K9A2 Platinum)
This is even with a clean install, on a 74GB Raptor

I have 6 SATA hard drives (the raptor, 1 x 320GB, 4 x 750GB)

The SB600 is a sh**t controller I mean my DFI Expert Board gets better HDtach readings than this one. Thank god I have a dedictated Raid Controller because if I had to use the SB600 this board would have been dead like disco and gone a long time ago!!

Raid 1 is bad on the sb600. i now have my 1tb array on the silicon image controller. also cpu is 100% due to folding
