I have a NIB system, with no store receipt. Is it possible to still get warranty on unit without a receipt?

When I registered my system all I needed was the serial #.
I'm not sure if you'll need the receipt when you ship it back, but I hope not because I no longer have mine :(.
The store should be able to look up when/where you bought it, as should microsoft. The serial number is scanned at the POS at most big-box stores.
