thanks for watching!

now on to bench!

Hi, let me introduce myself. im evil. im generally a graphic artist and
work primarily with 3D applications. (3ds max, inventor, AutoCAD, etc.)
aside from modeling i also do alot of intensive rendering, having my
system run days on end at 100% load. anyways he had me working
on a old dell xps, and i showed him how great his system really
was.

anyways

Boss says i can build a new computer, so i did .

Very nice work evil-98 but, I can't help but think that maybe you got the wrong video cards for the work you do. I believe a pair of Quadros would have been better suited to the tasks you are asking this build to do.

yea quadros would have been much better, but for the price im not complaining. if it were my choose id have a quadro fx 4600 i wonder if a mcw60 would fit on it.

if you guys didnt know prices on a fx 4600 range from 1700 to 1200... pretty much a new build lol

its a pretty big bubble if you ask me. still surprised im getting good temps lol
ambient in here is pretty high too. heater is blasting. its like 26-27c in here

phelan1777
12-27-2007, 05:03 PM
if everything is secure in the case, then try flipping and rotating the entire case, also some bubbles take time to work themselves out.

septim
12-28-2007, 02:30 AM
as phelan said it, if everything is secure, try tilting and turning to work that said bubble out of your loop, to your T then out your fill port, and hope you don't spill any water.

(gently flip it on its back panel, and a little on its right side, watch the bubble go up to T_line and out...)

your whole rig at around 20-30pounds should provide good exercise and sharpen your hand/eye coordination...

Best tool available, will get your actual load temperatures.

ya it is :D my load temps. TAT gave me were 10C above any other programme.

Post your temps pls

evil-98
12-30-2007, 10:43 AM
lol i just ran it on my current system

qx6850 at 3.2 on air ambient is around 16c and im loading 2 cores at 56, 2 degrees lower then coretemp which says 58, weird that it only does 2 cores, fully loading would effect overall temps in the system wouldnt it?

FrogBite
12-30-2007, 12:32 PM
Run the programme more than once. Ya the temperature readings are off my me as well. Use TAT for the CPU loading and coretemp for the temperature reading :D

evil, I think you've inspired to redo my rig and throw the rad up externally to increase the space inside my case. Yours has really come out excellent and looks awesome. I've been getting a lot of ideas about how my loop could be better configured in the past few days (plus I've been tempted to cool my video card)

that's a G0? Don't most hit 3.6 with G0 quads, especially on water?

SNiiPE_DoGG

hes got a lot of temp room there 45 load is nothing on the quad core, just give him some time ;)

I don't know how many have tried this, but filling your system with a vacuum pump on one end not only checks for leaks but helps suck trapped air out, but be sure to release the vacuum when the liquid comes close.

hey guys, back from a quick vacation.
so this morning when i got to the office
pushed the system to 3.825 FSB was
up at the 1800s i forget. system booted
normally, vcore was at 1.44 memory was
clocked to 1233 at dram 2.4. everything
looked great, idle temps were at 35 33 30 30
load temps 47 45 42 42. had it at 100% load
test 3D intensive plus, complex rendering for
about 6 mins before it rebooted.

had a screen shot but it rebooted. ill try again later,
maybe on my lunch but need to get some stuff done
so no time to play just yet. my boss left for the day
so i might have more time then i would normally :)

heres some OCing for today

no idea how stable i am here.. rebooted once.
also whats the benefit to going 1:1 ratio? im
just underclocking the ram. is there any way i
can stress test a all 4 cores at once? i did it
with ortho with 2 seperate once and set
affiliations between the cores that worked for a
few minutes but the program picked it up and
locked up. im just rendering as a test. which
is not sufficient. as you can see NB temps have
dropped which is nice DRAMv has lowered too
but thats underclocked

CPU idles at 20c loads at 30c says probe
CPU idles at 32-30-27-27c loads at 45-42-42-38c says coretemp
CPU idles at 20c says bios

Nice rig you have there!!!! After I saw the CM690 on the web when searching for a new case for my new rig I immediately got the same idea of mounted a top rad. Since I'm new to watercooling I searched for examples of people who already made such a setup. Then I came by this source with a rich availability of information.

I was wondering if you would like to do some measurement for me and could tell me if a PA120.2 (300 x 126 x 64 mm) and a PA120.3 (430 x 126 x 64 mm) rad would fit the top? Moreover, it's not clear to me how you fastened the rad when using the screwholes on both sides of the rad for mounting the fans and at the same time removing the pierced steel of the case. Could you possibly explain that to me?

Thanks in advance for you cooperation and advise!!!!

Wow, if you can get that stable at 500 x 8... yummy!

For stress testing, try either OCCT, or Prime95 v25.x. Both programs will stress all 4 cores automatically.

Just out of curiosity, how hard is it to get the right side panel on with the 24-pin ATX cable snaking around it that way? I've had enough trouble trying to get it to close with just some Molex and SATA power leads from my TT ToughPower PSU (plus the USB, Firewire and audio from the top I/O panel), and I'm pretty sure if I put my 24-pin ATX cable, it WOULDN'T close.

You might try upping your NB voltage for better system stability. Yours looks a little low compared to the other boys running an OC'ed Maximus. ;)

hey thanks, i was actually looking over that this afternoon.

im thinking about getting another maximus for another build,
but i have two 8800s and i want to put them both to work...
im stuck between the two, 780i = SLI, X38 = SEXY, what do
i want more! ahhh.

sorry about that.. :p:

edit:

@karl_eller: it was actually pretty easy to get the 24pin
around the back, i just have it zip tied in place and i flatten
all the cables out so it doesnt bulge. i have a hard time
getting the back panel on, on my armor b/c i got the 24 pin
in the back, so theres a hump on the back panel :( but
no one knows! so keep it on the down low.

I would officially like to make your entry on the list. ;)

hey thanks, i was actually looking over that this afternoon.

im thinking about getting another maximus for another build,
but i have two 8800s and i want to put them both to work...
im stuck between the two, 780i = SLI, X38 = SEXY, what do
i want more! ahhh.

sorry about that.. :p:

edit:

@karl_eller: it was actually pretty easy to get the 24pin
around the back, i just have it zip tied in place and i flatten
all the cables out so it doesnt bulge. i have a hard time
getting the back panel on, on my armor b/c i got the 24 pin
in the back, so theres a hump on the back panel :( but
no one knows! so keep it on the down low.

warning...
780i -> still off 680i but with pci-e tweeks and penryn support. Otherwise id wait b4 you buy this board. Some people say its a great clocker, others say it stinks like the 680i.

If you have a used 680i to stepup, that might be an option, however if you need to get a new board entirely, the X38 is the safer choice right now for overclocking.

Also Dual Display > SLI unless your a crysis whore or you have a 30incher.

i do mess around with crysis alot lol, the physics are just to fun, try stacking a person then a can then a person then a can 50 stack high. then shoot it lol its great, but evga's step up is usually for vid cards, they had a mobo step up special once i think. but either way i dont have a evga, i had a p6n diamond, supposively its a good OCer but never stablized for me, i have 3, i had msi sponsor that build. they are coming out with the p7n which is suppose to be alot better then the p6n. i wish i had another CPU b/c im running a qx6850 on it and it never officaly supported it, now they came out with a bios that supposively supports it but my system is still unstable. so thats my next project finalizing my previous build.

im really up for the maximus but i dont want to run SLI, i guess ill wait for FTW and see how that goes before deciding prices should drop some more by then.. lol

Nice rig you have there!!!! After I saw the CM690 on the web when searching for a new case for my new rig I immediately got the same idea of mounting a top rad. However, since I'm new to watercooling I searched for examples of people who already made such a setup. Then I came by this forum with a rich availability of information.

I was wondering if you would like to do some measurement for me and could tell me if a PA120.2 (300 x 126 x 64 mm) and a PA120.3 (430 x 126 x 64 mm) rad would fit the top? Moreover, it's not clear to me if you used a push or pull setup concerning the fans. In both cases there is an disadvantage in my opinion. Push pushes the heat air from the case through the rad while in pull the heat air from the rad is pushed into the case. What did you use and why?

Thanks in advance for you cooperation and advise!!!!

hey! thanks for your interest

regarding your fan question, im a bit confused but i can explain what im doing there.

theres fans on top which is in a push configuration (pushing down)
http://evil98.insanity-asylum.com/computers/workrig/final/12.jpg

and there are also fans on the bottom which are in a pull configuration (pulling down)
http://evil98.insanity-asylum.com/computers/workrig/part5/25.jpg

now by doing this in theory the flow is not restricted besides by the dead spots
from the hub of the fan. there is an equal amount of pressure added by each fan.
so enter and exit CFMs through the rad are equal in theory thus lowering overall
rad temp. now im sure that wasnt necessary but it also serves as a security
for my rad to stay in its position as the top of the case is cut to the shape
and size of the fans. so the rad/fan setup is held in place by the fans itself.

also just to clarify the fans are push/pulling air into the case which is then
exhausted by the exhaust fan in the back. reason for that is to have sufficient
airflow in the case for air cooled componets and outside ambient is much
lower then in case ambient. and there so much CFMs that air just blows
straight out of the side panel where 2 120MM fans could of been installed.

hope thats clear

about your rad question, you mean putting both a PA120.3 and a PA120.2?
that would not be possible and it is barely going to be able to mount the PA120.2
in the configuration that ive done. you could mount the PA120.3 on top but it
would be pushing right over the front cover, with alot of modifying of the top
of the case im sure you can fit it in just fine, i dont have a measuring tape
w/ me right now, im at work but i can tell you that the PAs are much larger then
my 360gtx.

if you can clarify your question maybe i can help you further

What did you end up doing with the top front control panel that held the usb/firewire/headphone jacks?
Awesome build btw, it speaks for itself.

One more thing Evil, i'm thinking reversing the fans so that the hot air is sent up and otu the case would be the best. That way it won't be going against the laws of thermal dynamics. The hot rising air generated from memory. the mobo, and residual heat from the cpu will be exausted out the top as it expands. You can mod the front panel very easily to add in another 120mm fan btw, or mod one for the bottom.

That is a sweet build evil. Great work, now if my boss would only let me build a new computer.

Thank you very much Evil for your clear explanation. Maybe you got confused with my question because of my English (not native). :)

However I think you pretty much interpretated it correctly. If I'm correct the whole radsetup including fans lies loosly on top of the case and not screwed to the chassis? It's funny FragmasterMax pointed out the following:

This would also be my counter-argument against your setup and is also the main reason why I was doubting in what flow direction to assemble the fans on the rad. The only disadvantage of blowing air from bottom to top could be that the rad isn't dissipating as much heat as blowing from top to bottom. I'm still not sure what to do now with my new rig?!?

Thermochill rad
I don't understand why you think the 120.2 won't fit and the 120.3 will but would be pushing over the front. Because if I look at the dimensions I gave you in my previous post the 120.2 is smaller in length while width and height are the same for both rads. Could you tell me why you think the 120.2 will barely fit the setup you've done? Do you have other suggestions, maybe with a shroud or something?

well my 120.3 derivative will be on it's way from DD, i'll let y'all know how it goes.
