Wanted to incorporate a drain port in my loop.

The drain tube is sealed with a plug seated in a rubber mount on the back of the case. Is this Y set up going to hinder my flow rate, if so, by how much, what does this mean in terms of temperatures and future upgrades (graphics, NB)

Thanks for any help,

Suggestions on loop placement would be appreciated too thanks

Is it safe to have it drain right above a power supply?

HAHA, yeh, i dont plan on draining it where it is mounted, i will take it out of the side of the case and drain into a container. Its just above the PSU to keep it out of the way when not needed.

Shouldn't the ext of the micro-res attach to the bottom of the Y
and then split into the drain/pump.
If anything, turn the Y around.
Would a T line would a cutoff work in your case?
Or just a plain t?

With that setup, it'll be impacting a pretty sharp bend. You can try a nylon 1/2" 90 in my flow rate estimator if you want to see what flow rates will be, it would be simliar...possibly a bit less restriction than that.

Just one isn't going to make much difference in temps, I just would avoid putting a bunch together.

a T would/could be better there. with the straight like from res to pump, and the intersection as drain...

Have martinm210 build you a T. Here's mine:

Use a T of whatever type meets your fancy. The way you have it setup is going to cause quite a bit of turbulence in an area where you don't want it.

BTW, the copper T and nickel plated barbs are okay as there are other water blocks that bolt nickel plate and copper together without any ill affect.

As others have said, a T-piece or re-orientate your y-piece for least obstruction. You want the intended path as straight as possible.

Those Ts look just as nice as his elbows do. Can't wait to find a case to put everything in now, so I have a reason to use these hot elbows I got from him. :D

Build your own case? hehe...

very pretty work martin does...

so you think i should get a T instead?

Anyone care to do a paint image of what it should look like for best performance?

Ive re done it, how much flow do you think this would affect?

thanks for any help

It looks the same? Except for the clamps. Thats not going to change the flow though. A T still would be best. The horizontal part of the T should be put inline with the loop, and the vertical part should be the drain line.

I changed the Y around, like some one suggested earlier.

how you have it now should work fine, minimal difference to a T and less chance of collapsed tubing due to sharper corner.

Looks better.
Though, I think for you the best thing would be a T with a shutoff/drain valve.
You maybe able to pickup a 5/8" brass T from homedepot with the top being 1/2" I think.

Personally, I'd move the res to the back of case and use the air holes next to the PCI slots to mount the brackets. I'd also lose the Y and drain tube and just drain from the res by removing the 2 screws that had the res to the brackets, that's how I did it.

Isn't the res supposed to be up high as possible?

Isn't the res supposed to be up high as possible?

Thats' a Myth.

It can be where ever you can fit it.

Yeah i thought of mounting it like that when i first got my res, but threw the idea away because it was higher than the pump a smuch as the current place, but now i have seen that the height doesnt realy affect much i think i may place iit there.

I may keep it as it is for my current build, and if i dont like it ill change it once i get the new mobo, ram and cpu upgrade.

Thanks for your help.

Off topic, MCR320 or PA220?

I like PA rads but what fits in your case and noise levels would decide between those two.

great looking T

I'd get a T line

hmm, does he sell those? I might have use for some t/elbows. . .

STEvil

pretty easy to make one of those too. Just need a small torch and some solder then the parts.

LogAn'sRun

that may be the case, but if I by any more tools/computer parts in the near future, I may have to look for a new wife. :)

getting a couple ready made T's/elbows could be slightly easier to smuggle in than a torch
