View Full Version : how to i "patch" the kernel?

i have a patch file for the kernel that ends in .bz2
what command line and parameters do i need to execute this bad boy so it does it's thing? thanx for the info.

you coulda just pm'd me and i woulda helped ya out...:)
open a console and:
cd /usr/src/linux <----where kernel is symlinked too
patch -p1 < patchxxx.diff <---type that then patchname.diff


not to hard at all
once your are done make sure to select the patch to use and the recompile the kernel

yeah i coulda pm'd u but i feel bad... i keep buggin ya with what i KNOW are dumb a$$ questions and what not... :shrug: so i figure i'd take my terrorizin to the boards :)
as far as the patch goes... it be all fine and dandy if the source files were where they're supposed to be... but they're not where u mentioned. and i have NO clue on what to look for and where. *NEW TOPIC* where does mandrake keep their kernel source files? ...my head hurts

dont worry bout pming me, i have no problem helpin out...now im not exactly sure where mandrake keeps the source files since they arent there. ill check and search later...p.s - they might not even have source files for the kernel....thats how red hat is i believe...i think for redhat if yo uwant them you have to download the source file for it
