And honestly guys, this game is indescribably the best PC RPG in years. It's a really really really good game.

It's good but it's not THE BEST GAME EVA OMG!!! There are a lot of stupid stuff and annoyances going on in the game.

I'd vote more for "don't go to gamespot" after the whole Kayne & Lynch debacle.

Witcher is decent tho...

Not to be rude, but isn't it the ONLY RPG of 2007??!

Also, I loved gothic3, but i remained playing oblivion because it was much less buggy ( i was falling through floors and getting stuck left and right in gothic3 )

is gothic3 much better now?

Witcher is good but far from best.

Its far to liniar, the game would have been more fun if the world was bigger and u had more freedom of movement. The fighting system is cool to watch but to easy. A m8 told me to pick it up saying it was as good as Fable, Even tho i thought Fable sucked donkeyballs i stil picked it up.
Witcher can b fun but cant even get close ot Oblivion or even Morrowind. But have ot say it is far beter then Fable but then again that aint hard.

The main thing it had going for itself was that it was the only RPG on the PC.

just check the other 4 nominees. 4 console games that (i think) are all exclusive to that console.
2 of them ive nvr even heard of.

Witcher was the best rpg in 2007, especially if you forgive them the 100 mb releaseday patch and count the patched version as the game.. i have to admit though that there wasnt much competition for it.

Did I miss the meaning of RPG?
We're talking like Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Baldur's Gate, right?

Nominees:
Eternal Sonata (X360) - is a real console RPG, with an almost completely classic turned based fighting system
Mass Effect (X360) - a bit more RPG as BF2 and Quake Wars
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS2) - classic console rpg style
Super Paper Mario (WII) - as RPG as CastleVania 2
The Witcher (PC) - a PC RPG game

Honestly, I'm not trying to troll here. But judging by these nominations, STALKER and CastleVania: Symphony of the Night (xbox arcade and psp) should definitely be on that list

Baldur's Gate II with expansion-pack remains THE best RPG on my list, also having played (or, watched my big brother play) the first game...
Mass Effect was lauded for not having a lot of text.... WTF is that?!
If you don't want to read a lot of text, then RPGs aren't for you in the first place, go play Halo...

On another note, The Witcher was definitely worth the 50$, even though I'm not quite through it yet... Love the choices which come back to bite you in the ass... :D
Also, the 1.2 version patch is definitely worth the download-time, it fixes the load-times being too long, as well as save-games being a lot quicker as well...

Best Regards :toast:

BG2 was excellent, but Fallout 1 & 2 and Planescape: Torment are at the top of my list

I just tried it, with patch 1.2

The graphics are really swell, but
at 640x480 all low it's unplayable on my current rig:

2x 1GB Patriot DDR500 Patriot PDC2G4000ELK @250MHz
3800 X2 @ 2.50 GHz @1.475v
X1900XTX 3D @ 735/836 @1.45v/2.1025v/2.0888v

My system isn't outdated enough to not be a min spec, is it?

EDIT: a reboot fixed everything
im gaming fine at 1920x1200 @ medium

:/
i use x2 3600 @ 2700mhz and a 8800GTS 320MB stock with 2GB of ram and play all on High and even some AA at 1280x1024.

So ur PC isnt that much slower it should handle The Witcher with ease.

Im playing it at the minute in 1650x1050 (or so) at all medium settings in a window. Plays fine on my rig. Can probably bump some settings up to high but never tried.

On topic though, this game is fantastic.

something is wrong. I am playing 19*12 4x/16x everything maxed on 2900xt cf and a qx9650 and there is never any lag. My friend with a stock 1900xtx is playing on 1650*1050 everything medium and 4x af, but his lags somewhat.

My setup in sig runs it smooth at 1920 X 1200 16af everything maxed. Witcher has the best graphics of any RPG I've played.

BG2 was excellent, but Fallout 1 & 2 and Planescape: Torment are at the top of my list

PS:T is by far the greatest achievement for PC RPGs. I'll go as far as saying we'll never see anything like that again, IMO. The greater gaming demographic just don't respect and/or understand the kind of experience PS:T was trying to put across, which is truely sad. Certainly is the one game I could hold up and say that it is a work of art.

Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Fallout, Gothic, Neverwinter Nights and SW: KoTOR all share the second rung for me. All amazing games in their own rights. (yeah, I know that there are those who hate IWD, but I still enjoyed it.)

I must say that playing The Witcher gave me the most excitement I've had playing an RPG since the original NWN. I hope more developers see the need for great story-telling games like this in the future.

Anyway, that is just my opinion in the end. :D

^^PS:T = Planescape: Torment, presume?

THe game runs fine now. But so far, I hate the fighting system, it makes me fee disconnected from the character (contrary to oblivion's)
I'll update this post as I progress through the game

I'll agree that it's the best of '07 PC RPG games. It's good, but also there sadly isn't any other competition for it so it kinda wins by default.

Not on the PC at least... and The Witcher is a PC-only title... Damn, we need more of those :D

Yeah, I made sure to have the "PC" in that statement ;)

Sadly, there's too many good games going console-only, and I don't play consoles.

True, I'd like to see Mass Effect come PC.

I wouldn't mind a port, considering how much I enjoyed KOTOR. Dragon Age is what I'm really waiting for though. :D

Morrowind is what floats mah boat, way better the oblivion. Never played anything that comes close to it, a pc rpg thru and thru =)

I dunno i found the demo very dull, would rather watch brit hume on re-run. It had some bugs aswell. Still seems hopeful, I would give it a 8 out of 10 for effort

This 2007 was dry for any ground breaking RPG

oblivion is the correct answer , prolly the 2nd or 3rd best game OF all time.
