I'm curious to see whether people lost or gained CPU MHz with the different chipsets? I personally lost MHz going from Striker Extreme (680i) to Maximus Formula (X38), from 3.83GHz @ 1.48v OCCT stable on the Striker to 3.83GHz @ 1.55v OCCT stable on the Maximus?!!

Anyone else had similar experiences? Positive or Negative?

NOT FSB - CPU CLOCKS ONLY!!!

the p25 will give u the best oc but the x38 will get the best performance if u have duel cards, the nv chipsets are trash

Are you refering to FSB overclock or CPU overclock on the P35 chipset?

Yeah the nVidia ones are trash....:ROTF:

Ok, yes the nVidia boards suck for Quads but what about the other chipsets?

nvidia chipsets are bad, they have an abysmal memory controller and they die very frequently (having owned 5 680i boards).

That said, I think you have to do different things with the different boards, with the x38 I know that you must increase the nb volts to get higher fsb, and to get anything good out of the board the CPU VTT needs to be increased to about 1.5-1.6v

the 680i is simpler but far less reliable and because of the lack of extra control you need more volts to get the same clocks (assuming you are configuring the GTL on x38 boards correctly)

Personally I think nVidia is getting the short end of the stick here. Their chipsets are just fine, albiet older now. If you want to blame anyone for crap nVidia based boards it should be Foxconn the manufacturer of the reference nVidia boards.

780i seems to be better then 680 for quads (at least from what I have read, trying to decide between x38 (dfi) and 780i (probably evga)) myself

I got better clocks on the P5K DLX and the Maximus as my Striker board which topped at 425Mhz and 9 multi with my CPU was a no go as my CPU got too hot to my liking...so I was stuck at 3400mhz with the Striker and got an easy 3.6Ghz on the P35/X38... I can't compare volts ofcourse as I reach higher speeds on the Intel boards...( 1.43 and 1.46 volts for 3.6ghz, no idea about prime stability as I don't run these speeds 24/7 but for benching they do their stuff )

Till now ( I haven't tested the latest 0907 bios for the Maximus) but I like my P5K DLX better as it's easier to setup and runs as reliable with less chipset volts than the Maximus....and with my Nvidia cards there's little performance difference between the two...
