View Full Version : Does anyone know of any memory blocks that aren't restrictive?

So, I ended up picking up a mcp655-b on clearance and a used dd aquablock for my 2 hardrives.
I would in the future like to watercool the memory (3rd pump for hardrive and memory of course)
Even with my corsair dominator over the ballistix, they do run quite hot.
Most of the memory blocks I have seen are so restrictive.

What about this concept, 2 copper memory heatspreaders welded to a 1/2" copper tube running the top of them.
This way the memory gets cooled and the flow is not restrictive in the least. The problem is, it's not directly pushing water on the sides of the heatspreaders..

I don't think so. You are trying to cool such a small, tight area that there just isn't anyway to get decent flow there.

I have the OCZ Flex memory water-cooled currently, and use the Swiftech F fittings to branch off to the memory. That seems to not hurt flow as much.

Are the OCZ Flex memory blocks made of nickel plated cooper??

Yep, the german guys one (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=169885).

That block is just pure :banana::banana::banana:.

Pretty neat loop routing too.

Yeah, extremely clean. I really love it.

here is the koolance one, 1/4" tubing, might as well suck syrup through a
straw

Then of course the thermaltake, which is essentially a broken heatpipe and attached hoses at the end (ghetto)

The ocz flex is very popular, but only sold on the ram itself.

This last one is the Akwaflow ram cooler, which I'm sure has the best flow rate, because of the 1/2" opening and doesn't seem restrictive.
It's a little odd because it attaches from the side.

I am really suprised more people don't watercool ram. With such high voltages and overclocks on memory, it needs stability.
Most people say well its warm, but not too hot, but only touch the spreaders but not the actual chips on the modules themselves.
I understand that it's a small spot and it's restrictive. but I'm sure there are ways around this.

We carry the MIPS one and it looks great. I've been tempted to buy a few times just looking at it in person.

Could you please post a pic of the bottom of the MIPS block? They only show it from above on their site and I'd really like to see how it contacts the ram sticks.
Too expensive to buy without seeing that first.
Clearance on the big gpu cards is an issue with many ram coolers now. Even the Corsair fan cooler can short your gpu if fitted badly.

clearance with most Asus boards is always an issue, must be a design flaw with them with repeated request from end users to move even a little primary gpu slot or ram slots so that extended video card and first 2 ram holders dont come into contact.

removing a ddram requires you to take out the video card first. very hassle for most watercooling their gpus...

i wondering about this also

i really like the look of the mips/modded acetal af top hey!!!

just dont know if my mcr120 can handle my nb sb vrms and ram

Its struggling as it is lol

LOL Quad loop, disi'?

no way!!!!

although i could probably fit another 120rad and another pump somewhere in my already full v2000 i'll think i'll pass

hmmm wc ram and wc hard drives 4th loop???

NAAAH!!

my v2000 weighs like 30kgs as it is!!!! lol

har har that i'd like to see disrupt, quad loops, looks like enough space for another loop in your build...

Mips block (from there website) 1/4" threads too!

Yes, but no pic of underneath.
I want to get an idea of how well the plates contact a set of RAM sticks.
Its useless if they're loose on nakid sticks or too tight for sticks with shields on them like OCZ or some corsair.
Get your cooler and find it doesn't fit your expensive RAM sticks?

by the looks of it...

sits on your ram clips like the corsair dom fan??

Jedda

Yes or inside the end pieces. Its plates fit down beside each stick but theres no dimensions or pics.

I've thought of machining up a block base like that and making my own plexi top, like Aussie-jester. Haven't had the time.

MIPS block with acetal top

Somebody tell me where can I get one. I couldn't find any from their site. (http://www.mips-computer.de/)

Jedda

Ah, I see. The RAM sticks must be nekid and you use TIM on the chips fitting the plates to each stick. Push the sticks in and then fit the top plate again using TIM and its good to go.
Means you have to strip any heat sinks off your good RAM.

The MIPS with the acetal top looks nice, but seems like a pain to install.

I have a separate loop for my NB/SB/MOSFETS/RAM. I'm using 3/8 tubing, and did a little unscientific testing on restriction the other day when I blew the water out to drain the loop. I can blow through my CPU/GPU loop pretty easy, but the chipset loop definitely had some back pressure to it. I'm not worried about it though since it is on its own loop. [:)]

mips didn't make that acetal top.....

its a mips ram block modded with a af (andreoid) acetal top...

he has a thread in the wc section and of (his) and other modded blocks

Yes that ocz flex is fairly restrictive.

Think I'll suss out my RAM temps with a couple of sensors before jumping into putting LC on it. The corsair fans are fairly quiet and seem fairly effective so far.

Don't you love how they use TIM between the ram chips and plates on that MIPS block but not between the plates and copper top?
Just like the AC guys using TIM between their chipsset/cpu and heat sinks but not between heat sinks and heat pipes.
