I just noticed retail price of Harpertown series.

Compared to Clover, the price is actually very, very affordable.

2.33ghz part for 300 CAD whereas it'd cost 500CAD for 2.3ghz Clover.

This changes my whole plan to upgrade my E6600.
I was going to replace E6600 with dual Clover, but Harpertown is more likely now at the moment.

The 6x and 7x multiplier Harpertowns are indeed priced rather nicely, I'd love a pair of them with some beefy heatsinks, maybe clock them 20% above stock and have a "silent" powerhouse.

yeah, depending on how nicely Skull Trail's FSB scales, this might be the way to go.

45nm reduces costs quite nicely doesn't it? ;)

If those numbers are right they better plan to make more than 2000 of them.
We'll take that many just for Xs..

6 and 7 multipliers. Yuck. Spend the money and get a chip with a decent multi.

You and I look for the top speed but he may have an interesting point here.
If he can get 7x400 for 2800mhz with $600.00 in chips and have it run reasonably cool with a lower elec draw than the clovers and also 10% clock for clock better those may be better than my X5350's at 3000 for less money.
Interesting I thnk..We just need to see one working system from a member here so we know the truth of what they do..

I'm betting $550+. The TYAN Seaburg based server boards cost $400-550. The Skulltrail setup is basically the same as the TYAN but it comes with more options, implying greater price.

The bottom line though is that you're still going to spend a lot of money for the board. You can use a Greencreek board. But as you know, you're not going to be able to run at 400FSB. The Seaburg boards are still in short supply. A few places have the Tyan board, which is going to cost you close to $500. The Supermicro board will be even more.

I agree and more so..I wouldn't be surprised to see $550-600 for them.
It is a "niche" product and that will add to the retail and it really is one of a kind if they do offer the gaming board type overclocking in bios.
Unless they try to go over $600.00 they will sell them out fast and even at $700.00 each they will sell every one of the supposed 2000 inside of 30 days.

We agree here. What I was trying to say that for the guy that isn't willing to drop over $3500.00 for the top chips, memory and board, a set of those $300.00 chips, a board amd memory is in the $1500.00 range.
A lot more takers there. Granted, limited to 3000mhz max with a 7 multi IF the memory will do 450 but thats still a pretty strong machine for the money..
At 2800 it will produce like a clover at 3150 and should run cooler..
yea, I know, you and I want to see 8 cores at 4000 each..
Ok pal, time for bed here..Later..

I think Breetai said Intel will produce as many boards as needed. And he should know.;)

The pricing has more to do with gouging by the resellers.

They gut some of the server features, but add some enthusiast features.

$500 price range does make more sense... :yepp:
