I know it's all subjective, but that's why I'm currious as to what percentage of you guys notice this "issue" at all.

So here's my attempt at a little poll :

I hear a low amplitude, very high freq whine under the level of my fans. It’s a comforting sound constantly reminding me that it’s still running.

I read that a much older version of the d5 had a high-pitch whine.

The first one I bought a couple of years ago was completely silent, and so are the ones I have now. If you touch them you can feel the movement, but no sound.

I noticed mine quieted down a bunch with more loading on it.

Mine dosn't whine, but at 5 you can definately here it if the fans aren't on. With all 15 fans in my system going, i can't hear anything though.

I had 1, up until a year ago (then a DDC and now a DDC+) but I didn't hear a whine... more like a humming sound, not too loud anyway, 3 was very very quiet where 4 was a little bit audible... 5 was somewhat louder but not irritating :)
Just like Baleful says, with a couple of fans (not 15 in my case LOL) you're probably not gonna hear it anyway :)

I myself have been hearing this whine for quite sometime, and it is really annoying. I have been looking into getting a DDC to replace it, but have been lazy. maybe I will just go for a phase change...

This (http://www.cooling-masters.com/images/articles/laing2/images/mp3/d5.mp3) ( Source: Cooling- Masters.com) (http://www.cooling-masters.com/articles-33-14.html) comes pretty close to what my D5s sound like.

Hard mounted, yes clearly noticeable when running on it's own.
Soft mounted, only noticeable by almost pressing my ear on the pump.

My D5 makes a barely audible whirring noise...not really a whine per se. When the fans go above 7 volts it gets drowned in the fan noise.

No whines here...

Never heard anything from any of my D5s, let alone a whine. And I have quite a few.

Um, how about yes, but it is not annoying.

I heard mine, have it soft mounted, but I turned it down to 2 with no decrease in performance. Still can hear it (all fans <7V), but it's not bad now.

I think it depends on how much Guns 'n Roses u listened to when you were young.

No whining, and can't really hear it with my 5 Yate Loons running.

I use Petra's Gel Stuff pad to mount it on, and don't get any vibration or whine.

Nope none here, not on any of the three that I own...

Seems like 95% of pump noise issues come from hard mounting and pump vibrations transferring to the case which makes noise.

Let her run free!!...:D

Yeah, I wouldn't hard mount the pump. You'll definitely get a lot of vibration noise.

Yeah, I wouldn't hard mount the pump. You'll definitely get a lot of vibration noise.

i used Petras "Gel Stuff" and some plastic screws with rubber washer for vibration isolation. works very well, all i hear is the impeller spinning (it sounds like a fan running without the moving air sound).

I get a whine past setting four, which in an open case situation, isn't audible past about three or four feet to people with average hearing. It's a lot quieter than my previous DDC-2's though, so no complaints here.

Mine is hanging by tubing and a rubber band, and I can still hear it if I turn it up to 5. Maybe I only damaged my hearing marginally in highschool? :yepp:
