Not a good idea, PC shutdown is through start menu so she'd turn it off and not be able to turn back on! :(

Don't forget Bejeweled and Zuma Deluxe! Yeah, I'm thinking she won't need SLI or CF on the thing :ROTF:

Seriously though thinking of going with a P35 with onboard video (of course). Any suggestions?

Yeah I thought about that, and still might, but supporting her is such a pain in the ass as it is I just want that thing to work and continue to work for her, period.

What do you mean? "Free" upgrade! :wasntme:

More like her crappy old S754 3200+ rig finally broke down

(actually I'm fairly certain all the hardware is fine, thinking of crunching under linux on it)

P35 boards with onboard video are actually G33 boards :D

A guy here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168399) did 580 FSB on his Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R. It looks like a good quality board, and has Intel GMA 3100.

OH man, i really need a quad.
A few months back i could had bought an q6600 G0 ES for 165 euro from a buddy of mine. It was cheap only because they had an xtremely concave heatspreader which is no problem for me. I didn't know it was an ES, and also thought is was B3. I'm still pissed a myself i didn't bought one, now i'm still in dualcore hell.

My father is 67 and I built a PC for him. I forgot to tell him that 24/7 tech support doesn't come with it! :D

Very old people, with the exception of Movieman , don't mix too well with computers! Ha Ha Ha...

Ownage, last week I got my first C2D, before that I was on AMD64 for years and years...

Everything we got does something. Enjoy what you have, and when the time comes upgrade, and enjoy it.

It's here :woot:

Though in my giddy haste to place the order I didn't realize I was ordering an OEM. No biggie of course (and the retail sold out there anyway) except now I gotta wait til it's installed to determine the stepping

Needless to say I keep glancing at the clock.

EDIT: Oh, duh, it's on the CPU itself, under the OEM sticker. SLACR ftw!

[XC] DragonOrta

Just look at the heatspreader. There should be a SLACR in the stepping if it's a G0. I just got an OEM Q6600 from NewEgg and it's crunching happily along. I'm pretty sure that almost any Q6600 you get from NewEgg now is going to be G0, simply because of the massive amount of volume though.

Just got an HD3870 in the mail today too. I'll have to be trying it out on some TF2 later on tonight. :D

So far so good...

Running at stock for now. Hitting a high of 48c crunching away. And I think I may have used too much TIM (X-23; stuff is thick and hard to work with)

[XC] DragonOrta
12-14-2007, 11:19 PM
What heatsink is that with? I'm hitting ~48c at 3.8ghz with WCing.

That X-23 stuff is def. hard to work with. I'm not sure if it's possible to use too much, as it seems like it never spread over the whole IHS no matter how much of it I put on.

I just switched over to MX-2, which is about as easy as they come.

Congrats on getting the quad up and running. Man this place is evil, I'm just sitting here looking at a newegg shopping cart I made a few days ago. The whole time I'm just sitting here thinking "I can do this, not like I need that new graphics card anyways."

I guess it just depends on how well I make out for graduation tomorrow. :D

Its a Zalman 9700. My e6420 at 3.5 averaged 58 crunching. Again tho no OC yeton the quad. (and now im at my moms building her new rig so no further testing/changes as yet)
