I want to buy a low to mid range card just to overclock/bench with. Just for fun.

I was thinking a Ti4200 or R9500, both with 3.3ns. Any other suggestions? Money is an issue.

The 9500 should be fun, but ive heard the 9600s OC well, can any one confirm? Its getting harder and harder to find 9500s now though and ones that can be hard modded to 9700s even rarer.

He said low to mid range card. A 9500np would be good.

Gotta RMA my 9700p, :( , thank goodness it's a "built by ATI". :) So I just put in an original Visiontek Geforce3, that I bought cheap online awhile back. So far, she does 240/540. Pretty fun, tryin' out older cards, and it's not a bad gamer at all. :) BTW, if money's an issue, don't forget newegg's refurbs. ;)

Unfortunately, 3dmark doesn't distinguish between the 9500/9700's so you can never come close to a top class rating.

Honestly, I would look at competing in the low GFFX range. Try a 5600 or a 5200 ultra. They apparently overclock great, run around ti500-ati8500 speeds, and ahve dx9 for the occasional game.

And they only cost around $100, so you can blow four and still be around the pricepoint of a 9800.

will,

get MSI TI4600 my man. it'll do 350 core w/o volt mod. Go for 400 core and 19.5k+ in '01.

the Ti4200 gets my vote.
the competition is high.
the class is singular (IE-your not gonna be wondering if a score was done with a R9700 pro or a 9500 Np, cause they aren't listed the same, a Ti-4200 is just a Ti-4200)

Thanks everyone for your input. I currently have a R8500 [275/275] (Best card ever :)) and I want something at least as good or better.

I am still confused as which to get, The Ti4200 or the R9500.

How would I guarantee 3.3ns or better on either of these cards? The most I want to spend is ~150USD.

Quad,

I was thinking about the Ti4600, but that is more than I want to spend on a benching card.

Thanks all.

I would recondmend the R9500pro if thats in your price range, very OCable and when it comes to gaming the TI series just don't live up to the radeon. I did see over at excaliber a couple of TI4600 cards for around $130 if money is tight that might be your best value.

I think I will go with a R9500.

How will I be able to tell which card has 3.3ns ram?

The Sapphire cards come in black and red PCB, what is the difference?

If you are talking about a 9500non pro....then the red card with memory in an 'L' shape has the potential to softmod and OC up to 9700 levels. The board and the GPU are essentially the same....just no guarantees if it will softmod.

The bad news is I think newegg is out of stock, so you may need to search and get some feedback from forum members where to look for this card.

Its just too easy with the 9600Pro!

I went from the stock 400/300 all the way up to 510/358!

I keep it at 500/350 to play it safe!

What i like about the 9600 Pro is that it stays COOL, even at the OC'ed speed.

Other cards may need yoyu to get ramsinks and a better heatsink but not with this card!

i hear those 9600's really do eat up mhz , but ive seen some benchies at firingsquad.com showing the oc'd 9600 pro struggling to stay with the 9500 pro, maybe its the 9600's lack of pipelines compared to the 9500 pro

I was foolish enough to buy a Gainward MX4 GS, and it was the most disappointing $150 card I ever owned. :brick:

That was before I starting reading the forums. :toast:

Fortunately, Gainward is a very nice company to work with, and when the card had to be RMA'd, they allowed an upgrade to a Ti-4200.

Funny how quickly things change....last year Ti 4200/4400/4600 were king of the hill at $200 to $350, and ATI was a distant second.

Now I can barely keep track of the nVidia video card models, and I'm only interested in ATI.
