Janus, the new Samsung 1TB drive ( HD103UJ ) F1 drive is faster in terms of read/write rates, and should be equal or even better in IOs.
At least that's what I've seen from some preliminary tests.

I have a feeling storage will be a new "happening" scene in 2008! :D
Good times ahead!
I have a the WD drive in a networked low power server and it really delivers the promissed. It's not a bottleneck using a 1gb regular home network.

I've been researching these this week. Looks like i'm going to go with the Samsung F1 (HD103UJ) or the WD GP (WD10EACS). both already mentioned here

Good choices.
I remember reading about new seagate recently and it was pretty bad.
Which i found strange. I think it was tested on anandtech along with WD and hitachi...

The Hitachi drive has a new firmware which greatly improves performance.
