View Full Version : A little brass to wrap it up...

Wrapping up the last of my fitting requests, I gave this Y fitting a try. Took almost two hours to make, but it came out pretty cool.
Made out of solid 5/8" brass bar on the lathe, then sweat soldered, ground, and polished. The barbs are slightly oversized...about like the D-Tek barbs at 14.5mm max OD, and the ID is also slightly oversized at about 10.4mm ID.

Also made a couple of 1/2" barbed elbows...again turns out to be alot more work than expected, but anything is possible with time.

The new buffing wheel works pretty good, there's just something about shiny metal...I like it..:D
On to working on that waterblock I started a while back..maybe I'll go after the GPU since there's already enough CPU attention lately.
I also just ordered another D5 from Petras, so if those D5 tops don't come out soon, I'm going to start experimenting with that too..:yepp:

 Love the look and the design! did you test the restriction on that Y fitting?

No, I'm still waiting for my manometer to get here. It should be fairly free flowing, although I think the 5/8" copper variety would flow even better.
I've made a couple of different Y fittings now, and every time I do...I tell myself I'll never make another one. It's a bit of an art to get all the angles cut just right. Then it takes a miracle to hold all the pieces while they are soldered...:D

No, I don't have anything on hand right now. Finished up making fittings for a little while. Time for some of my own projects for a little while.
I did make a couple with female G1/4 threaded on one end and 5/8" barbs on the other though. Those are not too hard to make.

Martin you need a helping hand (http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=Misc_Tools&product=6402063) works great here
Thanks all!
Yeah, I've been eyeballing those:up:
One tool at a time, I just forked over $120 on a full set of ER40 spring collets and collet holder for the mill. No more milling with the drill chuck for me.
Also been nudging the wife towards a rotary table for the mill as my x-mas present...can never have too many tools:yepp:

I love to see such beautiful craftsmanship.
Those Y fittings are a work of art.
I’ve just bought some plastic ones and they look CRAP!!! Compared to yours.
I am full of admiration for people who have the time and patients to create such wonderful this.
Well done:up:

Wow, I didn't think you could make pieces that look better than the mother of all elbows/tees....I was wrong. Those look pretty nice. Good job Martin.
Wow, amazing, i have nothing more to say but i want one please!

Just wow damn impressive. I have to ask did you make the barbs from scratch for that sexy Y? Either way damn envious, I want a mill/lathe. Yeep up the good work.

LOL!
Yes, I made those from scratch, turned from solid 5/8" brass bar on the lathe. I shipped off three more fitting packages this morning and only have one last one to go. Then I'm taking a break from orders for a little while so I can work on a few projects I had in mind for a little while.
I also just got my digital manometer, so I'm going to do a little pressure drop testing and do some much needed updating on the flow rate estimator.
And yes, my mill is also up and running again. Going to take some time off from work over x-mass too, so the garage will be a hummming..:D

Great Martin you got mill back in service, was just the caps replaced or upped motor to usa standard HP
Just the cap for now. Instead of a cheap plastic cap, I found one locally that fit and looked to be of much higher quality encased in stainless. Also improved the wire guage feeding the mill, so I'm hoping the combination works fine for a while. If it doesn't I already talked to the electrician that sold me the cap, and I'll probably upgrade the motor at that time....maybe wire in a variable speed while I'm at it.
But the cap seemed to be all it was. After installing a new one, it hums right along no problem. Still have a couple of little tweaks I want to do with the mill, some digital readouts being next... Just bought a full set of ER40 spring collets too...
