Welcome to the 32M Low Clock Challenge! This was Coop's (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/member.php?u=6997) incarnation, I am simply carrying on the tradition of this great little thread.

The Rankings:

Intel Core 2 Rankings (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2585711#post2585711)

AMD Rankings (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2585713#post2585713)

The Rules:
1/ Super Pi Mod v1.5
SPi Mod v1.5 found here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=82419)...thanks to XS!

2/ Screenshot with CPU-Z tabs CPU & MEM open...others are encouraged though
CPU-Z found here (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php)...thanks to Franck!

3/ Included in the screenshot should also be Memset or CPU Tweaker
Memset found here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92190)...thanks to Felix!

4/ We go by the honor system ladies and gentlemen...if your score is out of line for your specs, the torches will be lit and you will burn ;)
Honor found here (http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/honor)...thanks to MW!

Requests:
1/ Please only post one score per forum post...makes it easier for updating

2/ DO NOT use links to ImageShack with thumbnails...i will not go to that site, your score will not get added. full size images embedded in the post only please.

FAQ:
Q: What is the 32M Low Clock Challenge?
A: The 32M LCC is a competition to try and get the lowest CPU clock frequency for specific time zones.

Q: What isn't the 32M Low Clock Challenge?
A: The 32M LCC is not a thread for posting your best 32M SPi time, unless of course it happens to be just creeping into one of the time zones.

Q: What are the time zones?
A: The time zones are basically the minute marker but for each zone, it is the absolute highest time without venturing into the next time zone. For example: the 12.XX time zone is for 32M results in-between 12m 00.000 and 12m 59.999. So the ultimate goal would be your lowest CPU clock frequency required to run 12m 59.999 or as close as you can get to it without going into the 13.XX time zone.

Q: Why would I want to waste my time doing this?
A: If you are asking this question then you are wasting time that could be spent optimizing your 32M SPi times to get you higher up the list at various time zones...now get to work!

i'm not going to bother putting times up unless they are within 10-15 seconds of the time block. it kind of defeats the purpose of this thread. so bring the clocks down to around 4500MHz and have at it

hehe, yeah, it was driving me nuts that we didn't have an updated 32M low clock so i said the hell with it and took over myself. oh, and spell my name with an i again and i will come down there and cut your toes off :D

yes, i have been putting Yorkfield scores in orange to keep them separate. when there are a bunch of scores i might break them up but i think the two separate colors should work nicely. so get that P5E3 of yours cooking with the 45nm and put some more orange times up there.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYY about the name stuff up Jodi (j/k :D)

i noticed bachus is running a 0503 bios for same board and he is able to run 1T and AI Clock Twister - [Strong];
AI Transaction Booster - [Enabled 3] so it's pretty important for me too to get those to improve on superpi

0903 doesn't let me go beyond 1 or 2 in booster and middle setting for twister and 2T :(

i did a non maxmem run and it did 13m flat 3.6Ghz which is ok but not great

it was on 200 strap as well but i haven't tested others so not sure if it is faster or not (starting Pi times seemed to improve) heh

one thing my mobo won't let me is to tighten the PL.....seems unusually high compared to some  which hurts performance too even though i've had a swiftech copper heatsink and fan hammering the NB with 1.25-1.7v

it's not that fast considering mine and Jody's runs on conroes

with tweaking and rest you should be able to do that at lower MHz

i can't play atm as Gigabyte has poor efficiency in 32M and excellent efficiency in 1M with current bios files so just waiting for some fully supported bioses that will get me the same FSB as old ones

yeah Lui, we are on DDR3 and at high FSB which helps a lot but you should still be crushing 65nm with a 45nm. looking forward to see what you do on a SPi install though

also Lui, was your memspeed actually 486MHz and not 540MHz like Memset shows? the math isn't adding up if you were on a 4/5 divider at that FSB. until Memset gets its memory frequency sorted can we all please have a CPU-Z tab open with mem frequency.

First time for me benching with lower clocks and from what Ive done at 5ghz+ the 45nm cpus dont have too much advantage in 32m like it does on 1m... if you look at the WR database youll see what I mean but I was comparing 65nm times by Team Japan lol....

Jody, my actual memspeed in that run was 486mhz.... and it crushed my time before so I was just really surprised the QX made that much difference... My 3dpartition actually is pretty much the same as my 32M cos its just a 32M with 3d drivers and progs lol.... I think I need a new install cos Ive been using the same one since DFI P-965s lol...

i have to disagree...look at the 9min and 10min categories here.

my 65nm frequencies are substantially lower than any other 65nm (thanks to high FSB and DDR3) and sobih25's posted 45nm frequencies absolutely destroy mine (over 300MHz advantage) and i am at higher FSB on all of them. perhaps you aren't seeing as big a difference because of the low FSB (FSB means everything in 32M) or something but 45nm is definitely showing a huge difference in 32M in a lot of other peoples results. of course i can't fully find out the difference with a direct comparison on my setups until someone in Canada gets stock on E8500/E8400s but when they do i'll definitely be having fun.

thats a lot better considering your FSB and the mem speed. once some folks get some high FSB 45nm chips, the 32M times we see now with these QX9650s at 450FSB will look like 65nm times in comparison....mmmm, 562*8 4500MHz 3:5 933MHz 7-6-5 sub 10min :D

@Dinos and Jody... Yeah you guys are right, it looks like high fsb is the best way to get the most out of these cpus, I need to find the right settings cos I have no experience with Quads..... The PPs of the wolfies will be out of this world and at top speed itll probably have a 100mhz edge over the QX... Cant wait to get my 632fsb wolfie :D, cant believe they have the 8400 today but I have to wait till feb for the 8500...

Since spi is what ive been concentrating on and 3dmark06 still doesnt turn me on as much as 3dmark01, I think the perfect cpu for me is the X5260... but I cant find one anywhere and the price is pretty steep for a dual core ( $851 ).... 575*10 1:1 would be pretty sick, and achievable with a lil luck.... no dreaming required lol...

yeah Lui, not sure if that is worth it just for a 10X multi, hold out for the E8600 which is listed on official Intel papers...who knows when we will see it though. i am still waiting for my local guy to get back to me tonight to see if he got some E8400 and E8500s for me...otherwise i am going to just order a couple E8400s from NCIX.

i read something about that in another post of yours. i still have my P5B-Dlx so i will certainly see what wolfies do on it compared to the P5K3-Dlx and Maximus Extreme. i am just hoping for at least as good luck as i had with 65nm E6850s...all were 550FSB prime stable on air. anything higher is just a bonus.

luihed
01-21-2008, 12:13 AM
This is the first Ive heard of the E8600... If its the E6700 of the wolfies then price will be $500+ which is good vs the X5260 (~$1K) .... But I think Ill still grab the X5260 cos the 10x multi might not be enough unless I see alot of E8500 averaging in the 550-560fsb which I dont think will happen.... The "go" stepping was the best fsb clocker and I think the wolfies are like the original c2d, maybe even a lil worst.... My E6700 can only do 570fsb on ln2 ( 530fsb air ) I need more than that:D ... also it seems the chipsets are getting worst as well for clocking fsb.... I really hope Im wrong though hehe....

BTW i didnt finish tweaking the RAM for my run, I actually got a little better efficiency on the same day afterwards, but at higher clocks and lower time (which conflicts with the objective of this thread).

All said and done though, im horrible with SPI efficiency, no matter how hard i try.

wow, Peter is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with who he sends stuff too huh? :D

8.XX is up but that time is definitely going to have to be improved...congrats on opening the sategory though. i was working on this very category the other day, just with the SS phase. i got down to 9m 09s @ 5031MHz but the BIOS went for shyt on the P5K3-Dlx and it won't even try to do a recover, just does the 5 second fan spin up and reboot loop. i was going to get some dry ice and get it done the next day but that obviously didn't happen. sooooo i am basically out of the game until the x48 boards become available, either that guy you have there or the DFI. i think i am breaking up with Asus for this next round and certainly not going to buy another P5K3 to replace this one.

unless someone has a P5K3 they would lend me so i can do a hotflash Hipro styles...and yes i am serious, i am more than qualified and capable of it ;)

BTW, sorry for the late update guys. apparently there aren't e-mail updates so i missed the posts. i will have to keep an eye on this thread manually from now on.

haha, never in a million years. well maybe but it would be damn tough...thats what you get for playing the game with those fancy QX chips ;)

as for the P5K3...yeah, stoopid thing. i bench for 2 days straight on the bleeding edge under the single stage then the next day i am just setting up on air for the dry ice run and after a reboot it says the BIOS needs to recover. it does its little auto recovery and flashes fine. reboots and now just the spin and reboot loop. the board was good to me though. its too bad the Maximus Extreme is useless for an E8400 and benching so i've got nothing until the new boards out. i have spent enough on P35/X38 thanks

i finally took the boots to the Dominators and managed a CL7 run...and finally got some time to run the 45nm. the K-squad has about 2 seconds on me at 4GHz flat so this frequency won't hold up but until i get a 7-6-6 kit of memory or the guts to go over 2.20v on the Doms...i am all but done here for this slot. going to play with higher FSB later but doubt it will be able to make up for the high memory clocks.

Kickass time

I actually can relate to not wanting to use much voltage this time around...with the Ballistix it didn't worry me to burn a set up biweekly or so since they were a dime a dozen. :D

I haven't even really been over 2.1v with DDR3 yet...just out of fear of how much time and money it'd take me to find a worthy replacement for the sticks I've got if I kill them.

Those Max Extremes all seem to have very nice northbridges for mem clocking.

thanks for the heads up and leg work...will edit those with my next update in a bit.

so for those hating on the 790i because some guys have been posting results without P1/P2 enabled, let the hating stop, 790i is officially as fast in SPi (32M at least and really, thats all that counts :D )...it might not be as fast at the exact same settings, but, the memory clocking abilities put it ahead of P35/X38. i will be getting my X48 board in a week or so but i don't anticipate the memory clocking skill of the 790i.

here is the proof...now it doesn't register for anything, and it was a bit of a kick in the balls, but compare it to my 10.XX category leading frequency and you can see this setup is right there. BTW, i will have it in the 10.xx category at this frequency if it means not sleeping tonight...

now, the X48 i have on its way (P5E3-Premium) might be able to match this 531x7.5 1:2 at a nice tight PL, but my best P5K3-Dlx or Maximus Extreme sure as hell couldn't.

thanks buddy and yes you were absolutely correct, thanks for your thread convincing me of taking a chance on this board. it will be doing what it was meant to do in a short while (mmm 3D benching) but it also holds its own in 32M SPi.

also, this kit will absolutely not do <65 tRFC at this frequency...at 1050MHz i got it to run 64 tRFC but 63 was a no-go. my other kit of Dominator 14400s didn't like tight tRFC in the Maximus Extreme either so i don't have high hopes for them on the 790i. my G.Skills were a bit better so if they clock like these Dom sticks then the G.Skills should pull this time down a bit more. speaking of which, before i could even finish my last post, the deed was done. 790i owns one of the top spots in the 32M challenge

i can run my corsair kit down to 54 tRFC
guess it all depends on the board and kits

i've seen a few people benchmark 7-7-7-x or 7-6-x-x- on 790i at 2GHz which is encouraging.............

i reckon it's just going to need some more bios tweakin by engineers but once CAS7 and CAS6 clocks get up to speed Superpi times will tumble even more....you would definitely beat your old score in this category with CAS7 imo

yeah, 2000MHz at CL7 will be interesting to see on the 790i. as it stands, 500*8 1:2 8-7-6 is a few seconds slower on 790i than P35 at the same with tRD6 and even a few more yet than X38 at 500*8 1:2 7-7-6 tRD6. so clock for clock it isn't as fast, unless maybe with some nice 54 tRFC ;) (thats jealousy talking).

but...where it will pull ahead is at high FSB where we are limited to pretty much a single ratio like P35/X38/X48. the ability to tune memory clocks a bit better at 550FSB+ should give it the advantage there...hopefully.

i know Gautam wanted to see a lower frequency but this is the best i could muster out at this time. the memory is at the highest ratio before going to 1130MHz (which won't be happening anytime soon) and the OS is as tweaked as a base head on sunday morning. this 790i is a monster and these G.Skills are absolutely killing it...tRFC 56 @ 1060MHz...wait until you see them at the same timings at 1078MHz for 32M with only 2.10v :D

it feels good to join the sub 9min club on a single stage...and yeah, the CPU-Z voltage for the CPU is correct, i finally got lucky with a CPU ;)

now are you going to make me call you Dinos22...or is Dino/Dinos good. come on, what the hell is your name anyway? :D

i managed sub 5GHz/sub 10min with 65nm but sub 5GHz/sub 9min is going to be much tougher. i'm not sure where i am going to get that 40MHz from. this 790i at this timing set is faster than the only reasonable higher FSB setup. i just don't see this 790i getting anymore that this...aside from a couple MHz for tighter secondary timings

:)

yeah it looks like you've squeezed it all out

the only other thing i could think off is getting that tRFC lower and also going for 8.5x higher FSB with P1/P2 but that may be impossible unless subzero coolin on NB can help

you've done really great
in fact some of your times are making me depressed considering how far behind i am on Intel platform atm.... lol

i have finally gotten around to do some Ghost images of a bench system so that i could potentially recover back in 10 minutes if required

i also have a dead hard drive which may have been cause by 790i...i cannot install an OS on it any more

alright, Dino it is ;)

thanks for the comments...squeezing this 790i has all but consumed me these past few weeks but i think i am getting to its ultimate limits. time to up the CPU multi and take these results to the next level.

and damn...never thought of that for whatever reason. 8.5x588 is exactly 5GHz...and guess what my max 32M benching FSB is right now? that's right, 588MHz. i can run 588FSB with memory at 1102MHz...but i don't think that will get me sub 10min to be honest. i just just shut the rig down for the night but tomorrow i will give it a go with the G.Skills so i can run a tRFC of 58 at 1102MHz.

it is good to hear you have finally come around with an imaging setup, but damn, i don't want to hear you having issues with hard drives. as i said in the Ballistix OC Report...i haven't had to re-image in weeks. even with pushing these G.Skills and the Ballistix. i really think i have a good handle on this board. either that or i have beat it into submission :D

thanks for smacking me in the head and waking me up to the whole 8.5X multi. i can't believe i didn't think of that seeing as it equates to exactly 5GHz. i honestly didn't think it would be this close but it is almost worth fighting with for a few hours to see what i can't come up with. the only problem is that my SPi process is about as good as i am going to get it...i think. lord knows i have spent a lot of time on my process/OS. although i haven't really done a lot of changes to my CW since going 45nm...perhaps there are a couple seconds to gain there, but 3 and a half is going to be pretty tough at this point.

BTW, you do realize i have dropped 35 seconds going from 8.5X to 9X??? i hope your thinking what i am thinking about an E8500 and a certain world record :D :D

hmm it seems the 790i can supply a decent fsb. just wondering wich is the king..... 790i or 965c2 ( just for fsb )

anyways.... soo close, hope you can manage to sqeeuze a litte more out of it ;)

3oh6
05-19-2008, 12:35 PM
965C2 is still FSB king without question. my board is completely tapped at 590FSB right now with high volts and ambient cooled water. not many others have gotten this high or gone higher. but the difference in performance at this FSB VS 965C2 in SPi isn't going to be close :D

Apart from that, can you go higher with more vdimm?
I'd imagine 925mhz to be no problemo for you if you crank up the voltage a little...

This sunday, along with Oliver, I will try 1ghz 32M those latencies :) 4ghz sharp
Oh and 3950mhz as well, the 10.xxx entry needs to be made as well :D
- Initial Blackops preparation, for the 01SE/03/05/06 single card the following weekend... - Gotta make a fine little excel file with vdimm/vmch/freq/timings - so that it'll only be QX9650 concern the following week.

Yeah, they can do higher even at the same voltage.
I was just testing the exact timings I had from a previous test.
I'll test them again probably later on at higher freq & maybe some tighter timings :D

Good luck in your benches.
I'll be benching single-card as well this weekend ( in blind however, no temp sensors here :D ) but with a "real" single-card ( 9800GTX coldbug edition :p: )

+ CDT. For me the balanced system was not the best choice. I have better results with smaller Waza & sngle file size.

Try Dino different Parameters , there are many factors that affect Spi32M time. Such Partition Size , MaxMem , pagefile size & location.

Parameters which are good for my systen should not always be the best for others.

@youngpro...it is very nice to see you here and what a way to kick off your low clock career, nice work on toppling Hipro and Kielbasa Squad. oh, and your just using the wrong chipset if you want to catch me :D

@gbglassen...with clocks and memory like that, your time should be much lower. do some hunting for SPi tweaks and you will be giving that time slot a run for its money ;)

@Kielbasa Squad...awesome stuff as always and yes, competing with this 790i without ridiculous FSB is all but a futile effort...E8x00 FTW

as always, thatnks George, but i put in my time with duds before getting these two kits...but i have to agree. everything this 790i touches lately seems to do 1100MHz+ relatively stable. if only it would do the 595FSB+ that others seem to be doing with un-modded boards and stock cooling. i guess i can't have everything.

oh, and the above slot can be improved i think. looking at the read bandwidth i realized i should be able to get that about 400MB/s faster at the exact same clocks. hopefully that will equate to 1 or 2 FSB lower...we'll see shortly ;)

this is the same kit from the 15K Everest thread and as mentioned there a few times, are D9GTR. i likely won't be doing a OC Report of this kit as it really isn't available anymore with these ICs. if i have time, or more importantly the 790i has time, i will put one together. but it is unlikely as that motherboard is a busy bee with newer kits coming in every week it seems.

as for CL8 at 1100MHz being unbeatable, i wouldn't say that as 1000MHz 7-6-5 comes awfully close and at certain clocks i am sure it will come out on top. the P5E3-Premium at or over 500FSB PL6 at 7-6-5 is also a monster but you are limited to the time zones a little bit more with that setup.

@3oh6 Very nice 8m run there! About my 10m run, I know the time kinda sux, but no matter what I tried I couldnt get any lower. I tried alot of different maxmem and Copy waza sizes, tried spi folder in different partitions and on different Hdds but nothing helped:( Havent tried Eram though.
Anyways, my cascade has very recently been rebuilt by Tim, and yesterday i fired it up just to try it out. I did a quick test at 538*9,5 on a TOTALLY unoptimezed XP SP3 installation just to test stability, (I was even installing other programs meanwhile heh) and the time was 9m 22s so I will give the 8m time slot a chance instead:)

Oh, I'm sorry Jody I completely forgot about that magnificent G.Skill D9GTR kit and the 15K everest achievement :) So just like you said, no need to review that kit ... I actually think that only some of 'em were equipped with GTRs ... I mean, there wasn't a specific period of time that G.Skill brought this kit to the users equipped with GTRs (specific batch), but only some of the kits ;) (for example I know 3 guys with a JNLs, but hipro has a GTR kit ...)

Newer kits on the way huh ? I hope that all of 'em are capable of doing 1100+ MHz :)

After some long and hard work trying to find out why my 32M times were so bad i found out i had to set execute disable bit to disabled and plug and play os to no.

I don't know which of those 2 helped me but now i finally am back in the race.

Here's sub 12 minutes:

And here's sub 10 minutes:

There's some work to be done, want to get sub 12 at <3,6Ghz and sub 10 at <4.5GHz but for now i'm happy.

This Rampage Extreme sure is good at 32M!! :yepp:

Not really happy with the result, i was expecting to hit this goal at 4GHz flat.

Appearently my OS needs some more tweaking.
