I've decided to update this thread and keep the most current pics of my build in the first post...

11/08 - I have upgraded my rig with some i7 hardware and a pair of GTX 280s in SLi

Asus Rampage II Extreme
Intel Core i7 920
6gb Corsair DDR3 1600 cas8

Running an Apogee GTZ w/ 1366 hardware for my CPU and DD full cover blocks on my GTX 280s

Here are pics of what she's looking like today

So I FINALLY got my new MM UFO yesterday!!! I gotta say, it was definately worth the wait :)

So when I saw it was out for delivery, it tore down my Lian Li and started prepping for my new build...

A pic of my shiny lapped QX6700

Apogee GTX with copper top (no alu for me!!!)

MB prepped:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/DSC00865.jpg

So now that MM has moved to a hyper modular design, when you order a case from them, this is what you get:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/DSC00869.jpg

It took me over an hour to just put the case together! Instructions online were very helpful though...

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/DSC00870.jpg

Ok, I have a case now... :D

Im going to follow this, i too have decided on the P35 pro which look really nice in real life. Are the heatpipes going too stay?. Im thinking of removing them once i recieve mine.

I haven't noticed any temp problems on this board... I have a pretty hefty overclock and my temps are quite manageable.

Don't think I can justify the work it would take to WC the NB and then work out alternaitve cooling solutions for the PWN and SB.

But seriously, this is the best MoBo I've ever used... simply wonderful!

G80
11-24-2007, 08:33 AM
Glad to hear that, forgot to mention that the UFO looks really good and modular as you said. Can the motherboard be removed seperatly when the case is assembled?.

sonofander
11-24-2007, 08:34 AM
So here is the mb tray

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/DSC00873.jpg

And I got it installed

And the PSU on the backside

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/DSC00878.jpg

Ok, now that the easy stuff is done, I guess its time to figure out how to get my loops in this thing.

I love MM build logs, gives you a lot of room to show off your excess!

Question, the back rad mount, do the mounting holes line up for Swiftech rads or Thermochill rads?

Really like job, BTW.

IanY
11-24-2007, 09:41 AM
The back holes line up with all rads, except Thermochill. I don't understand the big deal. Why can't they just space it for Thermochill rads ? I hang a PA120.2 only using the top fan holes (have Opti1203) and its tenuous at best.

The fittings should work fine. EK has a nice new design, but so far I've not seen them available in the US:

I'm going for the same dual rad build in my U2 but itll have to wait till after finals and applications :( I'm pretty surprised that the mcr220 lined up with the back mounting holes. Idle:

And running small FFTs

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/load.jpg

So with the move from the Apogee GT to the GTX, a switch in TIM and the new orientation of my RAD, I dropped a couple of degrees at idle, but whats really great is I dropped about 10c at load!!!

Two reasons for us using Swiftech spacing on the back wall

1) Thermochill is over 1 inch thicker than the swiftech mcr. Spacing is tight with HDD's mounted and longer 5.25 devices.

2) To be inclusive to multiple manufacturer products.

That being said with hyper modularity we produce different back panels. Ones for Swiftech spacing and ones for Thermochill spacing. The same thing can be said for front panels. We have swiftech and thermochill spacing for all makes and models.

Back Panel options-
Standard double rad/PSU (swiftech/thermochill spacing)
Triple RAD - single PSU (Swiftech/thermochill spacing)
Duality (same as it ever was)

I hope you do realize that with the way you've positioned your PA120.3, that your Thermochill bleed screw is at the bottom. You best not touch that bleed screw ever.

sonofander
11-25-2007, 09:38 AM
If i could get a screwdriver under there, I might be tempted

Seriously though... a bleed screw isn't neccisary if the barbs are on top. Air rises in water and since the barbs are up... My system was completely bled in a matter of minutes

It doesn't help get good build thread pics but there's a lot to be said for getting it running then taking your time to sort the wiring.
You get to evolve a good wiring layout and appearance that way, instead of designing it all from day one. Some things you just don't know until its together.

Looking good!

On the MM site, you can pick the spacing for the front and back rads as thermochill.

Yep, those went online last night.

I convinced them to order them :P

Mainly because freaking green led fans are damn near impossible to find...

Something that Alex mentioned to me is that these new led fans push the same cfm as the normal black slow version yate loon's instead of the slightly lower speed used in the bled led ones.

Such accomodations were not made until recently. In the old days, you got what you got. There were no modular CYOs, no Horizons, nothing. You either liked it or you didn't like it.

Look at the XS review on the front page Oppainter had to accomodate his MCR320 to the PA120.3 spacing, and that was with a friendship with MM. Oppainter is a XS Mod and a sr. manager at Swiftech.

Garrett,

Each case comes with two HDD carrier-adapters to hold six HDDs. However, those HDD brackets are sold seperately, so you can add as many HDDs as you want. They are screwed into any 120 mm fan. The problem here is space, and the lack of space is a seperate issue. On the other hand, its also hard to squeeze 12 HDDs into a regular full tower case. Theoretically, 18 HDDs are possible in that case, but we know that its impractical.

Garrett
05-29-2008, 02:55 PM
Aaah... thanks for clearing it up, nice :)
But 3 harddrives on a 120mm fan, that's an awful lot of weight... not that the fan would break or something but still :D
I haven't seen these cases around in The Netherlands ever... I would want to try one though :)

Really like the looks of the Tri-SLI ... how's the performance increase?

Thanks Shazza!

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the boost I've gotten

Gaming at 2560*1600 with all available eye candy:
The Witcher went from ~80fps to ~120fps
Far Cry 2 went from ~70fps to ~100fps
Fallout 3 never dips below 60fps anymore (damn vsync)
I won't even mention the 250+ fps I get in TF2 now

rolling through the 1st area in Crysis (1920*1200 everything "Very High", no AA) at 70-80 fps with an occasional dip to 60.
I love being able to say that my framerate DIPS to 60 on Crysis :D

wroking on Vantage scores now... heres my latest

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/vantageht.jpg

all in all, I'm very pleased... wasn't an expensive upgrade for me due to some circumstances so I said why the hell not. Glad I did it :)

and if anyone is wondering, a PA120.2 is enough for 3 GTX 280s!

with the 120.2 mounted on the back of my case fans in pull config exhausting air out of the case, my idle temps are 34-38c across all 3 cards and under load they get up to ~55c

The hottest they have gotten was after an hour of playing crysis (while logging temps) the log reported that the last card in my loop rose to 58c for a bit but dropped back to 55. These temps are more than acceptable to me :D
