Well, after running a Q6600 G0 at stock for weeks, because my frigging DFI P965-S doesn't seem to like quads, I finally ripped it out of there and gave it a proper home. It is sitting in a new rev 2 DS3R, now. And relatively happy as a clam at 3625 MHz. I'm pretty sure this chip and board will end up higher than that, but for now that'll do. A hell of a lot better than 2.4 GHz. That is close to 5 GHz more crunching power.

The DFI ran the quad at 3.6 GHZ+ for a week or two, but then would not run it at pretty much anything but stock. Problematic, for sure. So, the DFI is out the DS3R is in, the quad is happy, and so am I.
I'm going to put a displaced E6600 in the DFI. It should be able to handle that. Once I do that there will be 2 more cores back in action, after a very long rest.

Care to share your settings with me?

I have mine at 380 x 9 right now. I haven't really had time to mess with it since I got it up and running. Hope to get 400 x 9 out of it....hopefully over the coming weekend:D.

Good luck.

Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme. I use them on all the quads. Then I use the boxes to put boards on. Getting friggin' crowded around here, though.

Time to get that rig off the coffee table and into a case or something. Barely room for my coffee and remotes.

Running 403, with two 1GB Ballistix PC2-6400 @ 4-4-4-12. I believe I'm at 1.475 VCore in BIOS; which translates to 1.408 in cpuz 1.41. That is probably a little higher than it needs to be, but I will be attempting to go higher on the FSB later and wanted to have the room. FSB and MCH is at +1. VDIMM is at +3 ( and may only need +2 ).

I've found, with these Gigabyte boards, that there is a .5 to .7 difference between what you set and what you get with the VCore. At first I was hesitant to give it much juice, but you really aren't giving it as much as you think. I think I now have five, maybe six DS3Rs running.
Got a DS3P coming, maybe today. Gonna check it out and see how it compares.

gotta love those DS3Rs :D, I have 4 of them myself... all rev 1 though.

another thing I like gigabyte is that they have the auto recovery bios. If you have a bad flash or if your bios somehow corrupted then it'll recover the bios from the HD. BUT .. the HD has to be IDE .. cant be SATA.

My DFI S-Dark is dead .. due to a bad flash.

These P35 chipsets just keep looking buggier and buggier.. odd.

Thanks, John. :)

Got hooked before "the Disclaimer" came along. So, there is no hope for me. :ROTF:

Isn't that just a matter of getting a new BIOS chip to revive it?

Another couple questions if you don't mind....

What do you load test with to call it stable? (I've been using prime95 small, large, and blend) What core temps do you get....and try to stay under?

At my 380 x 9 clock, I'm at 1.4375 vcore (set in BIOS) and around 62C during small fft's after 10 minutes. At 403 x 9, I slowly failed my way up to 1.48125 vcore (set in BIOS) and just over 65C during small fft's....but it fails in less than a few minutes.

Any suggestions? I'm gettin' scared about the vcore.

Thanks again.
